Alright, I know I know, this has probably bee discussed thousands of times. I searched everywhere but, for some reason I can't find any of it in the FAQ.

What I want to know is what are the best offsets for 8" front and 9" rear wide wheels. Other diameters will be excepted but nothing larger than 8.5" front and 10" in the rear, and nothing smaller than 7" front and 8" in the rear. I want to reduce the amount of fender roll if possible, and keep camber realitively close to stock degree's. I'd like to get a nice flush look, but I don't want the wheels to be sticking out at all, to where I have to correct it with camber, that's a big no no . I want to go with 18's and had my eyes set on 18x8 +25-30mm and 18x9 +25-30mm. Keep in consideration that I will have coilover's and I do have Z-brakes... I know wheel offset doesn't really play a huge roll in the clearance of Z-brakes but, it is more so of spoke design. I really need your help on the offset's with coilover's as I'm lost when it comes to that stuff. How much wider are coilovers than stock shocks? Is it because the bottom spring perches are lower than stock? These are little details I know nothing of, so any information or help would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know what you guys think. I know that the wheels are more on the conservative side and I understand the S14 can fit alot wider wheels and more insane offsets but, this car needs to remain practical for the time being. I want something that will look good and still be functional as I drive 70miles a day to school/work. Thanks guys.

*EDIT* I was also looking at some 18x8.5 +32mm and 19x9.5 +35mm. Let me know if these wheels will fit with coilovers. I already know that they'll clear Z-brakes...

Well, I can't comment yet on perfect size and offset. I have some 17x9 +22 with 235 40 tires but I haven't had a chance to fit them yet. From what I understand they will require fender rolling but not pulling. As for clearance of Z brakes and coilovers... Yes, spoke design does play a large roll in clearance but so does diameter, width and offset. 18" wheels will not have a problem on the diameter aspect and I don't think an 8-9" wheels with around +25 should either. For clearing coilovers you have to consider the same things, and yes it's because the spring perch is lower than the stock setup so you have to clear the springs rather than just the shock body.

Oh and tire size plays a big part in clearance as well.

Alright, that's what I thought about the spring perch sitting lower. As for the diameter of the coilover though, aren't they all narrower than the stock spring and strut combo? Take for example, the stock perch is say 8inches in diameter, shouldn't a coilover system's perch be narrower than that? I understand it all comes down to the manufacturer's design, but they had performance inmind when designing these things, so wouldn't they leave room for wider wheels/tires ? Thanks for taking the time to respond Gabossie.

they really didnt have ultra super performance in mind, and even so wider tires dont always mean better performance, unless everything else complements them correctly to use the wider setup

even so they did leave room for wider wheels and tires, about 2 inches wider...they didnt have any idea people would be trying to fit 18x10 wheels in place of the stock 16x6.5

the spring shock is wider above the tire, because the perch sits above the top of the tire, the part thats next to the tire is actually the thin part

so because of this the coilover is actually fatter than the shock spring, next to the tire, where it matters

Greg's right though, something like a x8 +25, +9 +30-35 will be fine

BUMP- Searched for "s14 offsets" and this came up. I'm in the exact same situation and need to know what are the widest wheels I can fit F&R without rolling my fenders, and what the best offsets for said widths would be.I know if I make a new post, I'll just be told to search by some prick who assumes I didn't.

Thanks.
