i searched thru the forums already and didnt find anything really relating to this (found help on swapping KA trannys) so dont get on my *** about this topic

are there any issues in swapping a S14 blacktop transmission to a S13 redtop block??? ive been told by numerous people that the S14 is just a better built transmission and the swap can be done...ne one here try it yet??? my 4th gear syncrho is grinding and its really pissing me off...id like to swap a new transmission (instead of paying upwards of 700+ bones to get mine rebuilt) to mine

also...if i have to go the route of a rebuild...are the KAde internals compatable with the S13 trans??? if not..are there any USDM internals that will work???

ne one know of after market synchros for the SR yet???

No issues. It's not so easy to find an S14 SR transmission alone though.

You could just find a low mileage KA transmission and swap bell housings. Very easy.

Aren't the gear ratios different in the KA transmission?

If the ratios are different it is a small change, not immediately noticable in 3 cars we have done this to. We never compared rpm to speed before and after to get a solid answer.

The bell housing comes off the front of the trans, unbolt the center of the inside, and the bolts around the outside. Then a little prying will get it off.

Are there different gearsets available in Japan? I swear my SR transmission feels like it has much closer ratios than the KA transmission that I took out of my car. It could also just feel that way since I have a ton more power now.

The SR,CA,KA, and RB internals are all compatible. This is what I am doing, getting the internals from all of the above and building your own gear set.

You might have the SR20DE transmission, has shorter gears (actually just a shorter 5th gear I think) than the turbo motor transmission if I recall correctly.

I'll have to compare this transmission to another SR. It pulls great in 5th gear and I'm still on stock boost, so maybe you are right.
