I have a 95 240sx. For some reason it doesnt pull as hard as it should and at 4000 rpm power just dies off. I've changed the spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, coolant temp sensor, and i even run 89 octane and it just wont pull once it gets to 4000 rpm.. Any help is much appreciated..

Does is sometimes smell like rotten eggs? It could be a clogged or plugged catalytic converter in the exhaust system. That would cause too much back pressure.

Check your intake filter.Check your timing with a timing light.Change your oil. Use premium unleaded (gas is cheap)Make sure your plug gap is right, and use NGK's.Check your grounds.Check your distributor cap and rotor for corrosion.

240's are slow as hell. Especially a fully loaded S14. Don't expect too much.

Intake filter and MAF are clean and good. I cleaned the MAF and throttle body. The IAC is giving me a CEL but the IAC doesnt effec the car after 3500 rpms and at Wide open throttle.

Trust me the car is slower than it should be. It pulls and its like it hits a wall at 4000 rpms. I had a 92 auto 240sx that pulled all the way to the redline. If i put this 240 on the dyno it you'd see a clear drop in power between 4000 rpm and the redline... I know its not the fastest car, but this thing gets destreoyed by mitsu galants and scion tcs.. Something's definitely not right.

THe car has a conical air filter element and a 4-2-1 header. The rest is mostly stock, and it has a 1/2 tank of 91 octane. Spark plugs are brand new NGK irididum. Fuel filter is brand new Z32. Coolant temp sensor is brand new. Just installed this morning. I cant check my timing right now, but i'll get a timing light when i can. Just changed the oil with full synthetic. THe exhuast doesnt smell at all. Compression is 153 - 155 - 154 -154. That's amazing for almost 180K miles. .. I dont wanna touch the dizzy cap until i can get a timing light. DOnt want to put it back on too advanced or retarded. There's really not much else to check though i dont think..

Im gonna do a 5-speed swap and turbo the car. So im gonna drop in a walbro fuel pump and an MSD 6al w/ BTM so fuel and spark will be taken care of in a few months. I doubt the fuel or ignition is bad though. Im beat...

Its slow because it's not a 92' hatch

My 95 is slower then my 92' hatch, and pulls all the way to 4000rpms

I haven't really banged my 95, cause i wanna take care of it, have gotten on it a little

But auto transmission, full interior, and S14 body is pretty heavy. But my 92 is really quick lol

And the 4000rpms in 5th gear is Governer. Still sounds like a lot of motor left huh?

People have told me TPS sensor a couple times.. And i know a 92 is probably faster, but this car is really slow. Im almost sure it wouldnt make more than 100 whp on the dyno and at 4000 rpm power would drop straight off. Heavy or not, weight wont slow this car down like this. This car WILL NOT accelerate beyond 4000 rpm at wide open throttle in "ANY" gear, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.. And im trying to figure out why...

BTW, IDRFT do you check your e-mail often...?

Check gear ratio and your final gear. cause it sounds to me like its a problem with your tanny. cause at 4000rpms you should still be pullin till about redline.

Hmmm... maybe that's because 91-94 S13's had better cams coupled with the fact that the S13 is slightly lighter?
