s14 tach help please

i have a 96 240sx se 5spd, and the other day i was driving and noticed that the tach would no longer go over 3800 rpm. the next day it wouldn't go over 2600rpm any idea what might be wrong or how i might fix it, thanks for the [email protected]

that sounds like a busted tach. the motor does rev high right? if the motor revs and the tach does not register it, you have a bad tach. this is because the ecm must see the signal to keep the engine running.

yeah the car still revs fine just the tach wont work properly. i'm guessing i should just replace the cluster

you can replace just the tach inside the cluster. Nissan sells it seperatly.
