S14 starter grinds and shifter rattles- have new flywheel/clutch... HELP

I have a new exedy racing clutch and a fidanza lightweight flywheel. I just reinstalled the transmission and the starter grinds when you first starts it up... only when you start it, and only for about a second and a half. Then it quits. The shifter also now rattles when getting on it really hard. It didnt do either of these things before i installed the flywheel and clutch. Just for the record i have an OBX short shifter. I put a dab of grease of the serpentine belt to see if the squeek would stop, it didnt, i pulled the shifter out and regreased it... The rattling did not stop, if anyone can help me i would really appreciate it.

Tighten the shifter?

I have an OBX shifter also, my knob rattles like crazy but I think it needs a bigger O-ring inside(knob is weighted).

the starter grinding is the thing i am worried about more. But i kinda think the shifter sucks too. How do you have your pieces aranges around the shift mouter? With the arms and the washers? Mine didnt have directions. And i think its rattling bad because i dont have these washers where they are supposed to be.
