Post

Hi,

I recently went for test drive in a -95 200SX (s14 sr20det).Some of my findings were:unstable idling and a complete loss of bost at maybe 3500-4000rpm.-I'm estimating the rpm because the tach needle was jumping in a random way...Up to that point you could feel the turbo charging but certainly not 200hp worth of it. Otherwise the engine had no sounds of misfiring or any other odd noice. My question is:Can a porly set timing (not done the FSM way) be the cause of poor boost AND a strange tachometer behaviour ?

If the camshaft position sensor was broken, wouldn't the check engine light come on and the rpm limited to 2400 or so ?

Other things i can come up with are:electical groundfaulty boost preasure sensorfaulty wastegate solenoidleaking wastgate valve actuatorlow fuel pressure

Ideas anyone ?

/niklas

your ecu could be in safety mode

a leak or bad mafs can also cause this

also check for boost leaks. safety mode is also known as limp home mode. The car will not rev past 2500.

Poor timing can also cause the car to feel slow. It could be running rich which could be caused by a bad O2 sensor. It could be fouled plugs.

Solutions. Pull the plugs and take a look at them. If they reek of gas, and have a lot of carbon on them, the car is rich. If the plugs look bad, they will need to be replaced. if it's rich, change the O2 sensor, and all the carbon will burn off the plugs in no time.

Timing should be set around -15 degrees BTDC
