s14 sr20det is sputtering and shuts off

hey fellas i have an s14 sr20 blacktop and im having a problem as soon as i hit the gas it revs up then kicks out at about 4000- 4500 rpms and sputters really bad and eventually shuts off i heard something about it could be the mpi relay but im not sure where that is if any one could help with this please let me know thanks
