Im about to have to rebuild my head on my S14 SR20DET and I just came across a FS thread in the classifieds for a DE head. He mentions that the DE head has better flow. Is this true? Will it bolt onto my block without any issues? I looked it up and someone mentioned something about oil squirter on the DET but not on the DE?

If you're sure it's an S14 SR20DE head, then it's the same aside from the cams having slightly longer duration (which is nice), but it doesn't really flow any better.

If im not mistaken the de head should have a lighter valvetrain because it has the 6mm exhaust valves. vs 7mm on the rwd det head. also if this is s14 than you should have the vct which some will debate good or bad but i see it as a positive thing. as long as your not looking for really high hp. I actually bought a built s14 det head from a guy on here cant remember is name or s/n but he did the valve conv. on it . just started my build so wont be able to show resuls for awhile but id try it out man. should be goodd.

There are a few differences between the DE and the DET head.. First off, the valves are different. The DE head does not have sodium filled exhaust valves like the DET does. This isn't a huge concern, but it needs to be pointed out. I'm unsure if the 6mm vs 7mm valve sizes are true or not so I'm not going to speculate. However, I don't believe the DE head flows better than the DET head, they are the same besides the valve stem diameters. Also to note, the majority of everything else is interchangeable between the two heads. The heads bolt up the same, use the same solenoid for VTC, can use the same cams (DE's have different specs than the DET's), springs, retainers, valve stem seals, etc etc...

Heh, I keep forgetting the valves are filled on the DET... But if I'm not mistaken, it's only a difference in the valve stem (larger for the sodium cavity), the valve it self is still the same size.
