Alright everybody, before someone bites my head off, I would just like to say that I HAVE SEARCHED.

Nothing seemed to touch on this particular topic.

I am planning to do an S14 SR20 swap this summer into my '97 240sx. I have heard more than once that KA driveshafts like to break on near-stock SR20's and RB20's and I plan on pushing mine over 250hp right off the bat.

What are some options for solving this problem? What strong driveshafts mount up without fabrication? Please keep price in mind and give estimates for possible solutions to this issue (if it is in fact an issue; maybe I was lied to?).

NEW INFORMATION

On another note, it just occured to me that I will HAVE TO replace the driveshaft because I will be doing an auto-manual conversion at the time of the swap. So, should I go for an aluminum driveshaft, or try to order a silvia driveshaft? If I should go with aftermarket, give your recomendation and approximate the price.

Also, recommendations for a light flywheel and price?

Thanks for the info so far!

stock driveshaft works fine for me and I'm pretty close if not at the 250hp mark.

That's new to me, I've had my S14 SR20 at 15psi this whole time with no problems. If you are looking for an upgrade, enjuku or phase2motor have all aluminum drive shafts and can hold a bit of power.

REALLY?

Ok, well since I have to get a new driveshaft anyway (i'm not swapping an SR with a friggin auto transmission) would you recommend visiting a junkyard, ordering a new factory driveshaft (if they in fact still make them), or going for an aluminum driveshaft?

I know I'm wasting your time; I'm just too dumb to figure this crap out on my own

why not get a steel driveshaft? will handle more power and you probably won't loose as much torque...that's the route i will be going as i'll be using a low gear ratio rear end and i have an insanely light flywheel...

where in the hell did you find an s14 in a junkyard and where can i get a vlsd? i noticed you were from tennessee... i'm almost willing to go to Johnson City to find a kouki in a junkyard...

As for other issues... I am now considering an aluminum or steel driveshaft from enjuku racing... the aluminum one is over $100 more expensive than the steel - what are the differences other than the 4 lb. weight difference? What kind of improvements in accelaration can i expect with a light flywheel and driveshaft on a near-stock S14 SR? (i will prob. have a custom intake with fmic and tuned safc II running 12-14 pounds of boost... oh yeah, and a walbro 255-DNA manual boost controller)

any recommendations on basic upgrades that are a must with this setup?

Any feedback would be much appreciated

another option is to have a local driveshaft/axle shop make a 1 pc for you... a good shop can use the imput shaft that will probably come in your SR transmission + the back flange on your auto shaft and make you a one pice with a proper length measurement.

I would definately spend money towards a single peice driveshaft. I am going to buy an aluminum one here shortly.

I don't remember the name of the shop but here is the number: 865-992-3802

they have 2 s14 240sx one is still in one piece minus some light front end damage and the other one had its entire rear donated to a wrecked car but there are still some usefull pieces on it.

i am going to order a steel driveshaft. its cheaper and the difference between the 2 will not be noticable.

so where is the shop located and were they zenki's or kouki's???

THANKS GUYS

frickin awesome...

any more second opinions between steel/aluminum driveshafts?

maybe i will get an aluminum wing to match

zoom zoom with my bad a$$!!

but then i would have to set her down on the ground... and bolt carnival lights all over the body panels.... and have audio that's more expensive than my motor... the prospect of it all is just so intimidating!

If you want to replace you driveshaft, Id recommend that you get one from Driveshaft shop in NY. Ive never had any problems with their axles or driveshafts. You can get the aluminum driveshafts from them, or I think they now sell steel driveshafts if you want to save some money.
