I just have a quick question. When removing the upper oil pan of the sr20 do you have to remove the timing chain? When I get my engine this week I want to replace rod bearings, and would like to know how in-depth the upper oil pan removal is. If removing the oil pan is a pain due to taking the front of the engine apart I will just replace gaskets and such when Im at it. I want to know because I want to order everything at the same time. Thanks

P.S. I also searched, and found nothing(I tried a variation of word combo's)

^ I think you might be right, I asked because I herd you had to jump through hoops to take the upper pan off. I just wanted to make sure.

You only need to take off the lower pan, and the oil strainer.Just don't forget those two nuts that are in the rear, I broke my rear seal retainer because I forgot those.

Actually, you might not even need to remove the strainer, but I don't recall if I did or not.

^ I might do one, if I decide to do it. I don't need to void my engine's warranty if I don't have to.

What the hell is this about taking the timing chain off if you pull the upper oil pan? I think you all are thinking about if you have to remove the timing chain cover, that you have to remove the upper oil pan.

Look in my engine rebuild DYI for pictures on the oil pan and whatnot.

I'm confused as to why anyone would think pulling the oil pan would mess with the timing. Two totally independent things.

there close together on the block and unless you have pulled the motor apart before its hard to tell if they go together during assemble and disassemble

I herd you have to pull the front cover to remove the upper oil-pan. I thought that sounded kind of strange so I thought I would ask. I assumed that pulling the oil pan was as simple as any other engine. Thanks for the info.
