I just went on to crutchfield, and I used the "what fits" option to filter out speakers that don't fit. Well I have my eye on a set for the rear that are 6-3/4" if I recall, but I read in the speaker size sticky on here, that the size for 94+ 2drs is 6.5". However crutchfield has it listed for my car (a 95 s14 btw).

So should I go by what they say or what? Also what it be safe to say that whatever speakers they list for the front will fit, cause I think I want different ones in the front also.

Thanks for any advice

I think what your asking is "what is the size of speakers that fit in the 95 S14"? Is this correct? If so you may want to check out this link. zerothread?id=12043 it is posted at the top of this forum. Check it out before you ask any more questions about speakers, but most 6.5" speakers sizes will fit with little modifcations.

No I already looked thats why Im posting know. I wouldn't waste time on something that has been answered. My question is crutchfield has a speaker I like, it's a diff size then 6.5, but crutchfield has it listed as fittable. Anyone know how to get the rear speaker grills off in a s14

i've been looking at speakers too... 6.5" should work fine even though it's supposed to be 'oversized 6.5's'. Yea, I remember checking on crutchfield too and i think it said nothing would fit. thank nissan for any problems you might have...

Haven't looked at how to take them off yet cuz i haven't bought speakers... check underneath to see if anything is holding them on, if not, you might be able to just pull them off... but don't quote me.

Or you could just pull your door panels off and measure the freakin speaker too even tho that'd be a pain.

What kinda speakers were you thinking of getting?

Alright thanks. Yeah i gotta figure out the problem. When I first test drove my car there was a slight vibration over bumps. Thought it was a major problem, but after some investigation my passenger rear speaker is loose. I actually got in my trunk and one of the screws that seems to hold it down is loose. By my own testing, with the speaker held firmly in my hand, the vibration was gone. So my guess is it's not being held down enough.

So I can't ride around with my music but so loud, before it rattles my trunk like ghetto rigged 12s

The reason tha tcrutchfield lists the 6.75 as fitting the S14 is because it does fit.

It just has an oversized driver in the same size basket.

The S14 rear grill just attaches with plastic clips. Pull gently up on the whole carpeted panel including both grills. It should pop free. Most all newer nissan speakers are the oversized 6.5", except some bose. Like I said most will fit with little modification.

It is nearly impossible to install speakers in most every car without altering screw holes or drilling new ones. Sometimes you have to make a plate to attach to the speaker and then mount it in th factory spot. The 240 is no different that is why I suggested reading the whole speaker size post it has lot's of good info.

Actually I've found that most cars have the same holes. This is assuming that the speakers are mounted to the metal part of the door and not in a pod(think bose). This is do to a standardization of speaker basket mounts quite awhile ago

I'd say exactly the opposite - if you research and buy the right speakers that are designed to fit your car, you won't have to do anything 'custom' except for the wiring. Out of all the cars/trucks I've done speaker jobs, I'd say 2% needed a redrill.

The 240sx is no different? Maybe you bought 6.5"s all the time (S14)... it's 6.75" all around.

I think you’re mistaken, there isn't any standardization, the reason the baskets are the same is because very few speaker brands actually build all the componets themselves they only assemble them.

There are only a handlful of manufactuers that stamp steel baskets and the others companies buy theses to build their speakers. If there is standardization how come there are so many different auto and home speaker sizes?

Think about just car sizes; 2in, 3.5", 4", E4", 5.25", 6.25", 6.5",6.75", 7", 8", 10", 11", 12", 15", 32", 36", then there are the oval shapes 4"X6", Euro4"X6", 5"X7", 6"X8", 6"X9". Does that sound standarized? Yes 6" speaker should fit in 5.25" hole due to the basket size but this isn't standarization, it's simple math and engineering of the vehicle sound system. If a vehicle has been build for a factory installed 6X9 then a 6.5" speaker isn't going to be the same or standard for that car. Standardization would be Nissan deciding to use all the same size and type of speakers in every vehicle they build to save money on the economies of scales by using the same standardized parts. The reason there isn't speaker standardization is so that indivdual speaker companies can differentiate there product from other companies products and market them with higher margins.

Some of my favorite speakers are slightly larger than other manufactures of the same size designation. Some have different types of magnets or motors and this changes the dimensions of the speaker too.

Yea, not standardized (big unfortunately) also because peoples' opinions about sound quality differ. Some relate it to speaker size thus you gotta supply to the market.
