So I'm looking at buying an S14 SE. Vehicle was built 11/95, but is classified as a 96 Model Year.

Can I check to see if it has VLSD by using one of the digits/letters in the VIN?

Thanks for your support.

I search and couldn't find the answer. I remember seeing a similar method a couple of months ago.

I'm fairly certain that all the VLSD's had little cooling fins on the back cover.

Unless the housing / casing was switched, it should give you a good starting point along w/ the above mentioned sticker.

I'd still turn the wheel to lock and bury the right pedal just to make sure its there and still works right.

Take a jack, put it under the pumpkin, raise car up, spin a rear wheel. If they spin in the same direction you have vlsd, if they don't you have open...or look for the orange sticker on the pumpkin or subframe, usually stuck to the diff cover. Too easy and been covered many times.

I know about the wheel turning method. I guess I'll have to resort to that method since there is no sticker.

Also the clutch is blown, thus I won't be able to do any burnouts.

The reason that I ask is I have the VIN and the car is 75 miles away.

If the price is right just buy the car anyway. VLSD's are $300 or less and take less an hour to install. If you get an r33 vlsd and r33 axles you won't even need to swap driveshafts.

You are right. The price is probably right on this one. It is the SE model with a clean body and no suspension modifications. Vehicle already has KA24DET power and basically just needs a clutch.

Thanks for your support.
