Hi,

I have seen a few CA into S14 which have had the tachometer running but everything I have read says it can't be done. I know that SR or KA24DE into S13 can get the tachometer running easily which the addition of a resistor. Has anyone here managed to get an S14 or S15 tach running with a CA18 on a standard or chipped ECU - not stand alone.

Cheers

Before anybody brings it up, I have a standalone, so I'm no help.

hey float, you wouldn't happen to know what input signals/voltages are required by the different clusters would you?

The tach shouldn't matter. That's a universal signal for all vehicles. I was thinking speedometer for some reason. I don't know why the tach wouldn't work. Somebody is full of it. It's the same signal as the SR and KA. The Speedometer is the issue as the S13's used a different sensor than the S14, and the S15 is different then both of them. But Tach shouldn't be any different than an S13 SR into an S14.

Just to update, as float had said the s15 tacho does work with the Ca18. Still need to work out the speedo convertor but I'm finally getting some where.

My friend used this on the S15 SR powered S14 and has no issues with it. It took a little bit to get it set up perfectly, but I think his speedo is now accurate up to 100mph.

Yeah I have one of those, managed to get the speedo working today. The guy who did my conversion wiring had not connected the speedo wiring at all. All sorted now. Will take the cluster and fuel sender tone recalibrated together next time I'm home.
For anyone who is interested, I set up the Dakota digital box with the dip switches as off, off, off, on. Ca18 wiring as yellow blue for speed signal input, yellow black as singal ground, then used output two to feed the cluster. It seems close to the speed readings I expect but I'll use the fine tuning once the car is on the road.

Hi 1200ute

thanks for that wiring info .... My 1200Ute has a CA18 & cluster ... and quite a bit more from a s13
My speedo sits on 70kmh most of the time - only drops to zero when i turn off the car ... there's interference somewhere

do you have a build thread on yours? ...
my thread is on datsun1200.com

Hey mate, I've been following your build. I have one on NS http://nissansilvia.com/forums/index.ph ... 76588&st=0
Have pulled out your speed sensor to check it? It would also be worthwhile just to trace your wiring to make sure it is correct.
