And it was NOT easy...

Not much time tonight to post, but I'll describe in detail later.

I would be interested in how you mod'ed them also. I'd love to put an s14 rear seat in my vert to match my JDM s14 front seats. Please let us know when you have time...I know in another post you said it took about 20 hours of mods up. ouch.

so exactly what seats can fit into the vert? i mean i know the ones that are going to be in mine are sorta wore down but useable would any of the newer style seats fit? say s15 or maybe even 350z seats? because i know with hondas you can get a 2006 s2000 and they'll fit right in a 89 ef hatch.

I know the front seats from an s14 bolt right up...and I think s15 seat are the same. But the rear seats are different.

It's WAY easier to use convertible rear seats and just have them reupholstered. I may go that route when I redo mine, since I don't like how they turned out.

S14 fronts bolt right in, and look sweet.

I used to own an infiniti M30... they had leather interior, they are relatively plentiful in the junkyards around here, and their rear seats use the same style attachment as the vert. I haven't tried it since I don't use a backseat but you could probably get one cheap. The M30 is a larger car though so I'm not sure how much if at all the rear seat is larger.

I can vouche for all of this... the S14 seats in the front are pimp, but the rear would probably look better if u just had teh vert seats reupholstered to match the fronts... and he means it, he spent tons of time on that rear seat! Still looks amazing though.

I just picked up a MINT dark greay S14 leather set, front and back. I knew from reading this site previously that it's not a direct fit. But that means it's not "bolt-in", but it WILL fit LOL

I couldn't pass it up @ $400- I mean MIIIIINT!

AZhitman- I'd love to know what you experienced in doing this. From what I played around with so far, it looks like I have to cut a couple little metal brackets off the chassis and remove a couple pieces on the backside of the rear panels. After that I measured (guessing) that I need another 3-4 inches of width on the top to make it fit. So I'm going to remove 2 inches of foam from each edge of the back seat and just pull the leather in and re-attach it. What did you do? Especially, what took you 20 hours? My take on this: The bottom portion fits with very little mods- beginners can easily do it. The upper piece is for people a little more experienced with fabrication. Or those who "improvise" to get it done LOL

I'll be taking step-by-step pictures of this as I go through it so others can perform it. But I won't be able to get to this until late next week or possibly the week after, sorry. I don't get much free time.

yeah I always wondered what took 20 hours too. I could MAKE a rear seat from a live cow and a sheep in 20 hrs. lol.

I think you got it right, just trim the foam and tuck the leather around... Post pics of how that turns out.

This picture is the difference in size of the upper portion of the back seat. The top is the S13, the bottom is the S14.

As I previously stated, I need to cut a few inches off each side. BUT, you can save a few inches on the seat by removing a bracket that is welded behind the rear side interior panels. They are only there to support the panel, but you also have to chop off the large spikes on the backside of the panel anyways to gain a couple inches, so those supports become useless. I'll have pictures of what the hell I'm describing later when I do this, but doing what I'm saying brings you down to only having to remove 4 inches off of the seat, rather than cutting about 8 inches of seat and leaving the interior panels as is.

In this picture, you can see that the backside has a large metal frame rather than just the seats' foam. This is helpful and makes this whole job much easier. At the end of the tape measure you see one of many sections of the metal that has a small rise to it. You can just drill holes through those sections to re-mount the hog rings after the extra foam is removed and the leather is now pulled inwards.

I'm only going to have a little time here and there to work on this around my job and wife/kids, but I'll take pictures of the whole thing. Hopefully within 2 weeks I'll be done. Yeah, 2 weeks! That's how very little spare time I have LOL

Well, good luck.

I wound up disassembling the entire S14 seatback, using the S13 framework and S14 foam, and "recovering" it with the S14 leather.

If you use the S14 metal, you lose the seatback "hooks" that loop over the tabs on the S13 vert rear bulkhead (pretty important).

The problem is there's a couple grommets on the sides that are for the seatback latches that wind up RIGHT on the side of the seat when you re-stretch the leather. Looks goofy.

Also, the seat bottom is too wide, and is not shaped to match the floor pan of the S13. It also sits at an incorrect angle.

All in all, it "looks" ok to people walking by. But it's not really functional.

Seriously, I'm pretty handy, and I regret puting all that time into it - Wish I'd just used the S14 seats in front and re-covered the S13 rears.

I'm a little confused from reading that part. The S13 rear seat doesn't have any kind of frame like the S14 does. I thought it would be a hell of a lot easier to just wrap the S14 leather over the S13 seat but all the mounting hooks are different and don't have anywhere to hook onto (unless I fab up a small metal plate to attach to hooks to each others' opposing side OR just cut a smaller rectangle out of the S14 metal plate and somehow attach it to the S13 foam). And then the imprint of the leather would be a little off because the edges of the seat would be the start of the actual seating area imprint for a persons back (if you understand what I mean- I don't know how to describe this!) The bottom shares the same design but it sticks much further out. For that I would probably just re-wrap it on the S13 to save what infant sized leg room it had to start with.

I haven't really had a chance to look it over much yet, these ideas are just based on the 1/2 hour I had to play with them the other day when I took those pictures. But re-wrapping is a hell of a lot easier so if it's possible then sure I'll do it... IF it looks okay (the imprint design)

how did this turn out?I just got some really nice S14 front and rear seats and my S13 rears really really dont match the new seats. I would love to get the S14 rears in there.Has anyone ever just taken the fabric off the S14 and put it on the S13 seats? Would this work?
