Current Status: I'm back in the Nissan game again after owning 3 S13's and one Maxima. I just purchased a S14 with 140K on chassis. During mildly aggressive shifts, the rear end make a very loud clunk/knocking noise. Also going up my driveway curb has some loud noises too.

I inspected most of the rubber bushings and they appear to be cracked slightly. The dampers also are very rusted and seem to be worn out.

Questions:1. Is this a symptom of worn subframe bushings? Worn rear balljoints?2. What poly bushings do most people replace these with? 3. Are coilovers really what everyone recommends for autocross, HPDE's (track events), and weekend driving? This is my project car so I won't be daily driving it. Seems like everyone lately is into STANCE.4. What brand does everyone recommend for front and rear sway bars? I had whiteline on my S13, but didn't like it. 5. Are ebay sourced control arms as bad as people make them out to be? Does anyone actually have these and have experience with them?

Future action:I plan on dropping the entire subframe to replace all OEM rubber bushings, but was wondering if people just reuse the old arms or buy aftermarket arms (helm style bushing). I'm guessing this will be my cheapest route than buying new adjustable arms.

People are going to tell you to replace the subframe bushings or get subframe collars.

If you hear clunking noise, it's too late for the collars.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering about that. I guess I'm looking to replace it with ES pineapple bushings huh?

What do you guys think?

Yes, ES bushing will work just fine. Actually, I think it's a better choice over aluminum ones.

I looked on ES's website and didn't see these. Where is the best spot to buy these subframe bushings and all rear end bushings. Here is my project list of replacement parts.

If you are planning on upgrading in the future (especially with coilovers), I would just start replacing the rear suspension with adjustable pieces as you are able to do so. I use SPL, but there are cheaper other options. As for all of the other bushings, you can just get a kit around $100 - 125 irc from energy.
