Lately I've be noticing that when I shift a little rough in my 95 240 that there is a loud thud coming from the rear axle. Also when I hit the brakes or disengage the clutch. It seems to me like the rear axle is moving back and forth

The other day I lifted the the rear right to change a flat and I noticed that there was about a half inche of play (front and back) on my rear. What do you guys think it is. Im thinking maybe the sub frame bushings but I can't tell for sure since I can't get under the car (its cold as hell) this weekend.

Please help me figure this out because I don't want to end end up breaking my driveshaft of differential

Check your giff mounts and your subframe bushings. could be either, also while your under there take a look at your drive shaft center support.
