I have been searching this am and cant find anything on diagnosing power window failure. On a 1995 240sx My driver side window wouldnt not go up, it would just click. It would go down. then it stopped even going down. It is frozen shut now. I have read that it could be the amp. But I dont wanna waste money on an amp when the window motor is bad. Please help.

I just went through this whole thing. If you hear clicking in both directions chances are slim its your amp. More likely your motor. The driver side gets a lot action, unfortunatley the passenger side is reverse geared and will not repalce it.

I have a very lightly used window motor. Contact me for details.

i been talking to someone that says that u can take the motor off of a passenger side and put it on the driverside if u remove the motor from the gears. I am gonna try that off of the passenger side

LOL. Dude...it "clicks" because there are 2 small relays inside the "amp". They MUST click in order to work. One click in the up direction...one click in the down direction. If it clicks ...doesnt mean its bad.

Did the motor from the pass side fix it? I still have a good motor if you need one.

my point is....just because an amp "clicks" doesnt nescesariliy make it bad. IT SHOULD CLICK!!!! If you ever took one apart and looked and listened to the relays operating you wouldnt make such a dumbazz statement. We tested 4 different KNOWN GOOD amps that ALL clicked and it was the MOTOR that turned out to be bad. The drivers side gets so much more useage , logic and odds dictate this is the main suspect. So...before you give such broad sweeping advice..please know what youre talking about. I back that up with an electronics degree and 30+ years experiance. You??

OK I THINK MY REGULATOR IS BENT!!! Sorry for caps. I pulled the motor off passenger side, put onto the drivers side and it was like when I first got the car, would go down but coming up it stopped and make this horrid vibrating sound. It does that now. The regulator has to be bent! The passenger side now dont work cause the motor is burnt out. But the amp is good. Where can just regulator be found at, egay was no help!

Thats wierd. The steel in those regs are pretty stiff, not likely it got bent. Was it ever in a wreck?MAybe the guides at the top of the window are too tight. Did you try to loosen them? So the AMP was good huh?..I thought so. Let us know what you find.

ps. wasnt too hard to swap motors now... was it? btw many other nissans have the SAME motors! I know!

cant you just test the driver side motor by supplying 12 volts directly or testing to see if the motor is getting 12 volts ??

i am sure its got 2 wires, it aint the window amp I am sure! I can help the motor work. the problem is burning out window motors. I am thinking that it has to be the regulator! I will try to pick up 1 for cheap! no big deal down the road I will fix, I need to get this beast up and running!

I have a motor for sale, works perfect , low useage. You will have to assemble the motor to your drive gear ( it will be all apart at that point anyway). Solder on your connector and it will last the life of your car. If you want it. $50 shipped. [email protected]

If you're getting the "clickety clickety" from the amp, then it's doing its thing. My money is on the motor being kuput. I have replaced a few so far (thanks to buying used motors that had already had the piss beat out of them, too).

If you salvage a good motor from the passenger side or other source you have to cut the connector off to unassemble it....then resolder it when you assemble it to your driverside gear set. Hope this clears the confusion.
