Has anyone ever had to change the gasket on the oil pan. For some reason my car just started looking oil all in about a 5 minute timespan. Usually I wouldnt care about the oil leak since the sr is about to be in there but when I drive my car the oil is being blown onto my ehaust pipe and it smokes pretty bad. So I want to fix it just so it doesnt catch on fire. I have the Chiltons book and they show that you need to take almost all of the front suspension stuff off to get the oil pan down. Is this true? It doesnt look like I would need to but maybe I will follow there instructions. Thanks

The easiest way (and it's not that easy :() is to either drop the entire front suspension (cross-member and all), then remove the pan. If you have access to an engine hoist you can lift the engine up a few inches and you may be able to get away with just loosening the subframe.

Since you mentioned oil on the exhaust i doubt this is the case, but have you checked if your front main seal (crank seal) is leaking? If so, it's a 30 minute fix compared to about 4 hours for the oil pan.

the easiest way is to not drop anything, and to take the motor mounts loose, put a jack or dead-man under the transmission bellhousing and jack the motor up about 3 inches(enough to remove the pick-up and oil pan. The rtv sucks *** if used alone, thats why you see so many leaks oon the oil pan on 240's use a cork hasket from napa as well as the rtv--its worked for me 4 times. No leaks.have fun and good luck--its a heck of a job either way.

ps--are you sure its te oil pan--if it all of a sudden happened, it could be the frot main seal. Those go out alot too--good news is--those are ALOT easier to replace.
