So I'm throwing code P0100, also p0325 knock sensor but pretty sure this is MAF problem. I can drive the car fine most of the time but then suddenly the car enters fail safe mode (wont rev over 2400) but most of the time it drives fine. Its pretty sketch on the highway going from 3200 rpm then hit fuel cut and jerking down to 2500 then it will just come out of it and drive fine again. Continuity is good in all wires from MAF to ECU. Signal wire voltage at ECU is a little low, should be 1.3-1.7v at warmed-up idle, mine is about 1.28 at ECU same at the MAF but it gets jumpy sometimes, will drop waaay low then climb back up. The ground wire is good (tested at MAF and ECU). The constant 12v b/w wire is giving me about 13.75v at the MAF. STUCK HERE...

Car is 5 speed swapped still auto ecu but had these problems before swap, just seems more apparent now.

Fixed the problem. The issue was inside the MAF. Opened it up resoldered some bad connections. Now the car runs perfect. If anyone else is having a jerking fuel cut issue with a CEL for a MAF this may be the issue and is super easy to fix.

where the connector plugs into the MAF, there are 4 little screws around it. You may be lucky but I snapped off 2 of them but they were opposite corners so it's still tight. Anyways pull the piece off,BUT now before you decide to do this, when you take this piece off it will break off 3 connections (which some or all are bad anyways which is causing your problem). simply solder a short wire to reconnect the corresponding pins, tuck the wires in and screw the 4 screws (or two in my case) back in and works like new. Ill take some pics if you'd like...

I am having exactly the same issue with my 240, it started a few months ago and I though it could be the fuel filter first, I changed that and still happened, then I had to take the car to smog and it's still showing :
P0100 Mass Air Flow Sensor Problem
P0130 o2 sensor problem
P0325 Knock sensor problem
So i had the o2 sensor changed and that brought my NO down ( passable ) but my CO is still a little high, and the mechanic thinks it's the MAF, but I rather not have to buy one as the are over 100 if not more.. I'm definitely gonna look into your solution but as Alberts_ka-t asked, I would really appreciate it if you could snap a few photos of the procedure. Thanks a lot in advance.

ps. anybody thinks I should have the Catalitic Converter changed? I don't think it's ever been changed ( I bough it used ) and the car had 136,000 miles..

Here is a link to the same process. I cut out the same section that he did but I connected the wires to the back of the plug so I could still use my harness connector, whereas he just ran the wires through a hole in the plug and wired directly into the harness. I basically just extended the factory internal connections with some wires. I had to rotate the plug 180 degrees to tuck the wires, so the harness plug will be upside down which makes no difference.
