Well I got an S14 MAF complete with air box, filter, and duct. I put it in,(just the MAF....stock airbox and duct won't fit due to hot pipe for greddy front mount), hooked it up, and still loading up at idle. The wiring was all done at Enjuku. I bought a new S14 harness and a new KA harness and had them do the wiring.

Surely the ECU that came with the swap isn't bad huh? Its a WC which should be the coresponding ECU for a '96 S14 SR.

Could I have a vaccum leak or something.........I'm about out of ideas here.

ThanksBrandon

so you are having the same problem with the new maf as you were with the old maf? and what do you mean by loading up at idle..let us know exactly what problems you are having and what you have done to try and fix it and any aftermarket mods you just put on?

OK. I disconnected the neg. battery cable from the battery for about 5 min. to reset the ECU. I put the S14 MAF on and plugged it in,....and now it idles FINE!??? OK, now for the problem.....it won't rev past 2500rpm. I think that may be safe mode or something. The idle doesn't change at all if the MAF is plugged in or not. This is confusing the **** outta me. Anyway here is a list of everything in the car.

well with the maf unplugged the engine wont rev past 2500 rpms..this is the ecu kicking into what you said, "safe" mode also called limp mode..are you sure your maf is plugged in tightly and not loose? i dont think it can be your wiring because if the wiring was wrong your engine would rev over 2500 rpms but you would have misfiring problems, a/f ratio problems because you would have shorted your ecu..try your other maf and check your ecu for codes..also does the l.e.d. on the back of the ecu go off when the engine is running?

The little metal retainer isn't clipped onto the connector, but it seems to be seated firmly on the plug. I'll have to check the ECU tomorrow to see if the LED is on or not. The car is actually over at a friend's shop, so I can't just run out and check it unfortunately (I don't have the space nor the proper tools here at home).

Thanks for taking the time to help walk me through this ordeal.

Well after nearly having a nervous breakdown, my mechanic and I, (after talking to those awesome guys at Enjuku), found that the ECU had been modified in its prior home in Japan. Apparently one of the chips on the board was changed or something (I don't know sh*t about that stuff). So now that I have 3 MAFs, including a Z32 w/ harness, I had to track down an unmodified WC ECU. I just bought one from a guy on ebay. Lets hope he's a straight forward kind of guy, and this will miraculously bring my car to life. This project is making me an old man before 30!

As always, thanks for the help guys. Sorry for the rambling and ranting, and incorrect grammar.

good to hear it bro..what is your engine doing? misfiring/hesitating? running rich? rough idle? im guessing that is what is going on ..usually what happens with a bad/ incorrect ecu..wish i wouldve knew your exact symptons to start with but its cool that you found the problem...wierd how with one maf you can rev over 2500rpms and the other you cant...good luck when you get the new ecu let us know if its 100% or not
