OK so my 240 likes to die randomly. I don't know why and its not good when it just shuts off while I'm driving. It's a safety hazard lol. Anyway I got it scanned and the 2 codes that came up were the intake air temp sensor and the crank position sensor. I replaced the CPS today and I ghetto rigged the IAT sensor back together. My check engine light is still showing and it died just before. Not sure if another code might come up now but its really aggravating.

Any ideas?

Give us a little more info. When during driving does it stall? When slowing/stopping, accellerating, idling, any time? Reset the codes and see what comes back. Most stalling while driving is due to sensor issues or vacuum leaks.

Sometimes it'll be at idle and other times its while driving. I gotta scan it soon. I'm gonna try and see if there is anything that needs fixing by the engine but well see

I've heard coolant temperature sensor will make this happen... common problem in these cars. Also, distributor prolems can cause this. Always search, my friend!

just wanna say this is really f-ucking annoying. last time i went to advance auto to get it scanned it came back as the IAT sensor and the crank position sensor. ok, so i buy the 2, install em, think its fine until it starts dying again. figured it was the ground in the trunk so i sanded the area down some more, tightened all the battery connections, and that helped... NOT. im going to scan my car tomorrow before work. my CEL is still lit so there has to be something. it just sucks when youre driving and it starts bogging and when you throw it in neutral, it just dies.

Define bogging. Also, what happens if you push the throttle while it's happening? Does it bog more? Have you noticed any correlation with this issue and temperature, i.e. the problem tends to happen when the car (and surrounding air) is hella hot? I ask because I have experienced some similar symptoms. If the bogging issue gets more pronouned with opening the throttle, you might check the TPS resistance. It should vary between 2-10 kOhms. If the problem is almost completely random in its occurance, you might check that you are getting good spark, that all the injectors fire consistently, and that you are getting good fuel pressure to the injectors. FSM has some good information on these tests.

Summary: bogging typically indicates the wrong ratio of fuel to air. Try to pin down all the specific circumstances of your issue, and that might narrow it further. As of now, the most anyone can say is that it's probably not the sensors that you just replaced, and that it probably is a component that controls your fuel mixture. Could be pump, dirty line, injector, pressure in rail, MAFS dirty/bad, vaccum issues, spark issues, or any of the sensors.

Good luck, and continue posting up with the info so we can throw more ideas out.

I dont think an IAT would cause your car to die randomly and i think if your CAS was bad then the car wouldn't even start. It might be vacuum leak like someone else stated, my reasoning for vac leak is you said you have a weird idle.

Next time you get a chance when your idling maybe in your driveway or somethen when the cars all warmed up, try pumping the brakes, if your rpm drops more then 100 or it bogs then i would say vacuum leak forsure.

it was actually the wires going into the MAF sensor. the plug was screwed up so i just took the 3 cables and wired them directly into the MAF. it hasnt died since then except once. im not sure why but thats probably another issue

im back.... unfortunately. My car keeps dying again. At first it was definitely the wires going into the MAF. I soldered them into the MAF and that seemed to have fixed it for a few weeks. Now its staring to die at random times again. I think it might be the fuel pump, not sure though. I posted a video of it just idling in my driveway. The rpm's are between 1000 and 750 but once i rev it up high, it fluctuates between 1000 and 750, then 500, then 250, then dies. It jumps up and down.

ANY IDEAS?

i was going to put in a walbro 255 anyway for my rb25 swap but i might just do it now and see if it fixes it.
