so bought a 97 auto s14 a year ago did the minor upgrades. from the start wanted to do a 5swp but seems like alot of work and money to spend just to have it back to stock. so i was thinking of going ka-t been reading and there are ppl that have done this, so is it a good idea how much hp can the trany hold up to? i was only going to run max 8pounds of boost. also i live in new england where can i get my ecu tuned for this setup and get it back? lol have friends that have sent there ecu's out and never got them back .

must be emance lol anyone who takes you money and does not produce a product should be slapped.

The key to keeping the tranny together is keeping the fluid cooled, a kat is going to double the load the trans sees. A very large trans fluid cooler and quality fluid is what matters.

Personally I would rather have a 5spd even if its stock.

If you dont "feel" like like going through the hassle of swapping a 5 speed in....what makes you think you'll have an easier time piecing together a turbo kit.

All of your questions are answered in the stickies. Many options for a tuned ECU, and again, you can find all of your answers in the stickies, or by using a quick search.

Use a large bar/plate type trans cooler and get your ECU tuned by Enthalpy. The auto slushbox will handle 8 psi fine with a cooler and new fluid.

If your not gonna swap in a 5spd there are still things you can do to make driving a bit more fun.

You can allways shim the accumulator to make shifting a bit firmer. There are also a few aftermarket transmission programers that let you alter the shift program (shift speed, stall, lock up, firmness) and use steering wheel mounted paddles to shift.

They are pricey, but kinda cool. I thought about using one if I ever pick up a vert.
