ummm.... here's a small list of differences from the top of my head that I've found while working with my S14, having used an S13 DOHC head on my old block, then swapping to an mcS14 engine later on:
S13's use an external coilpack, S14's have the coil built into the dist.91- 94 had 240/248 duration cams. s14 had 232/232 cams. S14 engines also run on OBDII while S13's run on OBDI (although early 95's had a very early version of OBDII). S13's have the notorious intake manifold butterfly valves, S14's don't.From the 95-96 to 97-98 model, things like assorted plugs (TPS for one) and the charcoal canister/ evap hardware are different.Valve covers between the s13 to s14 are different.Heads are slightly different (1 small bolt is located differently from the head to block).mcS14's don't have upper timing chain guides from the factory.Upper timing chain guides have slightly different brackets between the S13 and S14.The S14 head has a slightly ported oil send galley into the head compared to the S13.mcS14's don't have the rearmost cam bridge.
This is why... when swapping engines between different models, you need to swap the intake and ehaust manifolds, in order for the harness to plug in, and for everything to fit.For the S14 engine to drop into the S13, the distributors must also be swapped. That's your list of steps that need to be done to drop an S14 engine into an S13. Since you're keeping your old intake manifold and distributor, you're using your stock harness, so you don't have to mess with it.
