this will be my first winter with the s14. my dad told me to just put on snow tires and add some weight in trunk and it will be fine. how bad is the s14 in the snow? should i just park it in my backyard and drive the minivan or it will be fine in da snow?

just go easy on the gas and give yourself ample room b/w you and the car ahead of you and make sure you have plenty of time to brake. Drive easy, and there's really no problem. RWD just makes it more fun when no one's around ;]

2nd that about it being fun! but seriously, it is not very bad. I even had crappy wornout generic tires and it was still ok. I bet you could have a decent time with snow tires. I wouldn't recommend driving on like 3 inches of fresh snow or anything, but it should be fine at slower speeds. I nearly got stuck a bunch of times on small hills and ice (5000 rpm and and my yelling got me out ). Adding weight to the trunk is a two-way street. It does help give the tires some grip, but if you lose control it makes it harder to get back because there is more weight behind the spin. Lots of people recommend finding a parking lot after the first snow and getting used to the car and what it feels like before it loses control.

You will be fine. If you want to save the car from rust, park it. But if it's your daily like mine is you will do just fine. I have driven mine in four winters and have never had any big problems, last season was the first time with snow tires and I think it made a difference, kinda funny seeing all the fwd cars stuck in the right two lanes of the interstate going nowhere while your cruising past em' in the left lane. This will be my first winter with the car being manual so it should prove to be a fun learning experience

i spend the last winter on nearly dead front all seasons and khumo 712's on the rear... man was it fun but with caution and all you should be fine. here is my thing though... since you're a new driver id recommend taking the 240 out every once in a while to get used to it but still driving the van. inexperianced drivers tend to panic and brake.... and then youre screwed.

I live in MI with LOTS n LOTS of snow... Sure I had really hard time getting out of parking space but as soon as I was out it was fine... Just don't gas it when turning and don't give too much gas when starting from stop...

I plan to get snow tires for the season coming up. The directional Blizzaks meant for coupes/sport sedans look hot as hell. And you can leave them on all winter, because they also work well in the dry/wet too. This past winter i did fine with the potenzare950's i had, till some a$$ in a stationwagon decided to make a complete stop on a incline, then i couldn't regain traction because i had to stop for them. God i hate people.

But anyway, if i had an option to drive something else. THEN DO IT. 240's shouldn't have to be subjected to salt and the rust that follows. Mine's my daily driver so i have to, i make sure that the day after the snow melts i take a hose and rinse out the undercarriage. It's a good idea.

Sadly *snicker* I cannot relate to your horror stories of snow *snicker*of you all in your cars *sob*(wish I had one) but the important thing is...when you all are slipping and sliding....remember that.... I am warm and you are COLD but you're always welcome to visit and warm up.

I'll be coming for college soon anyways. and it sounds like snow tires are a good investment.
