Being originally a honda guy, ive decided to sell my commuter car (del sol) and my 98' GSR Turbo and get with the RWD scene..

I am not very knowledgable toward the 240sx's so any response to my questions would greatly help me!

I was wondering being as im in the market for one, can a 1995 240sx (s14) have its headlights swapped out for kouki headlights? (I dont like the stock ones) Or is that only possible on the 98's etc?

Also, I want to do KA-T, but I hear that they dont make a boostdesigns.com turbo kit for it. I have a greddy turbo on my 98 GSR and i am really happy with it, does greddy make a reliable kit or would it be a lot cheaper to piece the kit together and get a good ECU?

My ultimate goal is having a drift machine with at LEAST 280 to the wheels (my gsr runs high 12's low 13's, so I need something to be of comparable power)

This is my first post, so it's probably very amateur-like. I don't have a lot of time to run a search so I am sorry if these questions have been repeated. Thanks!!SSmangrove

280 is easily done on the stock motor. Boostdesigns project car is an s14, so i dont see why it wouldnt fit....

But its good that you are coming to the dark side, now. The toruqe your ka will make your car feel worlds different than your gsr--youll be pleasantly surprised.About teh headlights, you will need bumper, fenders, hood an brackets and other stuff to convert over to the kouki front end. But stick with the zenki--it grows on you.

Building a drift machine is a good way to get started..check the drift section out! Welcome to NICO!

Well, youve got a little more reading to do...

The 97-98 are the kouki model. They come with the angled headlights. To convert your 95-96, you will need hood, fenders, bumper, lights, and brackets as Projex said. If you want the kouki bad enough, just hold out til you find one. The conversion can be expensive.

BoostDesigns only makes kits for the KA. Greddy also makes a kit (althought I think I read its being discontinued; not trying to start rumors...)

Welcome to the scene. Torque and RWD will be so much fun!!

Awesome guys thanks for the help, this will definitely be enough to get me started!

I might end up just looking for a 91 hatch and do the s13 front end to save a little bit of money. Never seen an ugly conversion on a 240 so..

Thanks!

greddy is good for emmisions, other than that its overpriced/underpowered.

probably not my place to welcome you seeing as how i'm a newb myself, but welcome anyways. i was a honda guy too before my turbo gsr was stolen a couple of months ago. the honda scene is just polluted with more thieves/theft than i can take. i couldnt leave my car parked outside without having an ulser

A cop pulled me over last week right outside of school to tell me that my "exhaust is illegal, it is too big." When I pointed out to him that its 50 state legal and made by greddy (greddy evo) he got quiet, then asked me to pop my hood. So i pulled the lever, then he said "POP THE HOOD!"

"I did" i said.

"Get out and open it yourself!" he said.

"Im sorry, ive never been pulled over before" I said as i was getting out. (it was always my thoughts that you are supposed to stay in and not do anything)

"Yeah, obviously you havent encountered me before, just do what I say" the cop said

He said "hmm, supercharger, this isnt legal, im going to have to cite you for this."'

"Its a turbocharger and its manufactored by Greddy as well. It is also 50 state legal."

He proceeded to touch and flick things in my engine bay, and asked me if i had a "regulator"

"a regulator?" i said

"YES ! A REGULATOR! Dont get smart with me you know what im talking about!"

"No, I dont, do you mean a boost controller?" i said

"Look im asking you a question, and all you have to do is answer, ok?. Do you have a regulator, a device to control how much air goes into your motor, yes or no."

I felt like laughing at the guy. "NO, the turbo is running at 7.8 lbs factory preset boost."

He tells me to get back in my car,and then he comes up and says "there is still the matter of your exhaust being illegal."

My reply (mainly pulled it outta my ***, dont flame) was "It is a 4" tip which tapers down into a 2 1/4" mandrel bent piping up to the existing OEM catalyic convertor which then goes to a greddy carb legal downpipe. the exhaust system is fully legal."

He goes back to his motorcycle, takes about 5 minutes, meanwhile im late for work and getting pissed off for him wasting my time. He hands me my license and speeds off.

That made me realize just how happy i was for going with GReddy for this car. I dont know what im going to do when I get the 240 and I get pulled over.

I know what you mean wtb. Fortunately mine hasnt been touched. I have a series of kill switches that have to be in sequence for the car to start. Im sure a pro could figure it out, but it would sure slow them down, plus they are well hidden. I guess they are towing cars now.. Ingenious idea, but at the same time oh so aggravating.

Had a friend in SoCal, got his supercharged delsol stolen twice. First time they took his sub, deck, shift knob, etc. second time they came back (we think) for the rest. All the cops found was a shell with a half burned rag sticking out of the gas tank. glad i dont live there.

To be honest... I think the Greedy kit is ok... (cept you needa port the wastegate for a full 3" exaust to work. Hello 14psi)

If I had it to do over with what I know now. I would not have gone Greedy... I would have gone BD or Pahtkat they both look good. with the AEM...

I do however like the Greedy intercooler.

But none of those good options were out a year ago... So Greedy it was.

yes dal2kvvisp, extreme ownage. Looks like im moving! California is an OK place to be except for the fact that its IMPOSSIBLE to buy a house unless you are president of some major software company or just really really lucky and have a rich family. All the people that me and dal2k work with (aged 16-65) do not live on their own, they all rent out condos with a rediculous number of room mates or live in apartments with a rediculous number of room mates. When a day on our schedule gets dropped for one reason or another, big disputes happen because that means they cant pay rent for that month. That's how tight it is at 15-17$ an hour in the bay (wish i was making that). Fortunately i got another couple of years at home before I get to move up north.

Maybe thats why we dont see a lot of TRUE road beasts over here. Every once and a while youll see something like a turbo civic, or an s13 w/sr20, maybe a type R with some work done, but thats about it for the majority. My guess is because of our emissions standards and the increasing difficulty to find someone to pass you. I went down to LA, not one modified car. Sure theres Lexus is300's up the arse, and NSX's aplenty, but all relatively stock(rims at best). Do you guys in other states ever see truly modified road beasts? Pretty rare here, indeed.

And this is the exact reason I stay at home. I don’t have any friends that are responsible enough to be roommates. Not to mention it makes me cringe when I think of wasting cash on an apartment! Once I hit 20$/h I'll go house hunting... 40k/year should be enough for an ok one around here. Not to far off now.

Question for you guys,

I am fortunate enough to live next door to a mechanic who gets some pretty good deals on complete motors. Being as its extremely hard for me to find a 91 fastback for under 3k locally, would it be advisable to buy an 89 or a 90 fastback and do a KA DOHC swap? I myself have never swapped a motor, but my dads done a few and has an array of tools so.. plus it will be A LOT less thank 3k. Id spend 3-4 k on a really clean fastback but id rather put that kind of money into mods, etc. Any input on this would be great!

You can boost up the KAE to ya know. No swap needed.

I would only do it for the challenge factor. Just be patient and keep looking (and saving) for a DOHC.

Edit: ^ Good point. hahaha

Doesnt the KA24DE have more potential when turbo'd though?

If your goals aren't over 450whp, then you'll be just fine with the E. Just check the compression and boost away.
