I installed an Alpine 9830 in my S14, using a wiring harness. My headunit comes on and works fine off just the car's battery, or in the "on" position. But, about 50% of the time, when I turn the ignition on, the headunit doesn't come on until about a minute later. Then I can only switch from tuner to CD to Aux... but no sound and none of the other controls work. I can turn the unit on and off, but it doesn't kick in.

Is this a wiring issue? I also had an alarm installed by a shop a few days after I installed the HU... but I can't remember if it did this before the alarm.

Any ideas?

This stopped happening after I had to jump my car the other night. Maybe the battery was the problem.

I seem to be the king of strange car quirks though.

I have the 9853 in my 96 se. I didnt wire the remote lead for the amp, and it didnt work, so i wired it, then it did. Doesnt sound like this is your issue though.
