why cant u just wire the aftermarket electric fans to the factory fan relays and let the ECU turn them on/off as nessersory instead of wiring one to run full time? when your freeway crusing for long durations, one doesnt need to be on full time do to the natural ramming effect of the air thru the radiator, thats just putting extra wear and tear on that one plus an extra unessary electrical load on the alternator. does anyone know the perfect/ideal operating temp for KA's. i mean, i know the thermostat opens and 170. and the low speed fan kicks on at 203. so is 203 the operating tempature?

You could wire them up to the factory fan relay - there's only one as far as I'm concerned - so forget about controlling dual fans separately. People have wired it up to that one, it's a hit & miss & depends on what you do, climate where you live, etc...

Running electric fans full time is pointless & adds extra wear & tear as you've mentioned. Running it off the factory fan relay is almost as bad - the factory fan relay's set temperature is WAY too high and it may already be too late in a lot of cases - basically, it only kicks on when you either turn on the a/c or the car is about to overheat. For daily driving in moderate climates you might be okay, but I wouldn't trust it during a hot day w/ stop & go traffic... and definitely not for tracking.

Both ways are hacked ways of doing it, and considering most of us spend so much on the engine & cooling systems of our cars, I'm still perplexed why there are still people who refuse to buy a decent fan controller.

During normal driving conditions, the auxilary stock electric fan shouldn't turn on.

a fan controller is the only way to go. sorry to thread jack but, does anyone know what car has a similar sized radiator with electric fans? Be nice to get something at a wrecking yard. Instead of an overpriced aftermarket one.
