When driving my brakes feel like they are always on...It's really noticeable when going under 30mph. What is weird though is that when I shift to neutral it feels fine, but as soon as I put it in a gear and let off the gas, it goes back to feeling like the brakes are on. I checked my fronts and the pads touch but barely, you can still move the wheels pretty freely.

I'm not sure if it's my rear brakes or my E-Brake or even something like my transmission or Differential. (I have no clue when the last time the fluid was changed in either Trans, or Diff. I don't know if that could be a reason or not...) My car is getting aligned so when I get it back I'm going to jack up the rear and see if the rears spin freely.

Any ideas? is this sort of problem usually the brakes? or does it have to do with the transmission usually? Is it possible that the previous owner could of used the wrong rotors or something?

*Edit: When driving I hear a metal to metal contact coming from my brakes (Can't tell if it comes from front or rear) It sounds like nails on chalkboard.

Rear brake calipers are pretty common to seize up. How does your ebrake feel? Is the handle easy to pull up or does it feel like it has resistance? It should go up with minimum resistance. You can remove the rear calipers and try to compress the pistons(you have to turn them to compress them). They should compress easily, usually I can turn them with needle nose pliers.

I also have a dent in my resonator, do you think that would cause my car to feel like it's braking? Although that doesn't explain the metal screeching noise coming from my brakes. Well I guess I'll replace my rotors and pads and if it still feels like it's braking, where do I go from there?

Pretty sure its warped routers. When your driving at higher speeds its making contact with the pads.

Ok so I just got it back from the garage and they said its a bad rear drivers side wheel bearing. Could this be the cause?

And if so do i have to buy the whole hub or just the bearing?

Bad wheel bearing would cause the squaling AND drag.

If it's making noise, you need to replace the bearing. Do both sides. Not a bad job.

Thanks AZhitman. Do you know of any places that sell the rear bearings? I have been trying to look and the only thing I can find is this: http://www.frsport.com/Genuine-OEM-Niss ... 12967.html

I didn't really want to spend that much if I didn't have to.

Edit: If it makes any difference I have 5 lug hubs.

That's not a bad price.

You MAY need the whole hub if the damage is that severe. In that case: http://enjukuracing.com/ichiba-5lug-fro ... -7171.html

The price one pays for letting things get that bad. :(

Don't let it go any longer. Last thing you want is to lose a wheel on the highway.

When i take out the old bearings, do i just look for scratches/cracks on the old hubs? or what should I look for when determining the condition of the hubs.
