I've been searching for a one peice aluminum driveshaft for my S14 ever since i discovered both Enjuku and Heavy Throttle no longer offer them. Driveshaftshop.com has one for $450 but after contacted them they were unaware that there were 2 different ones, with and without abs. What i don't understand is if the abs rings are on the axle why would the main drive shafts be different? The only thing i can think that would make a difference would be weither or not it was equiped with a open differential or VLSD. Can someone tell me the differences between the two so i can find out which one they make? Thanks...

The ABS driveshaft is a bit longer then the non-ABS one

But why? How does abs effect the driveshaft lenth? I can see it effecting the axles but don't they use the same diff? And how much longer are we talking about? Does anyone have the actual measurements?

Actually its the other way around the ABS driveshaft rear is shorter then the non abs driveshaft rear. The ABS rear half is .55" shorter then the non ABS rear half. This is the same on both MT and AT cars.

The fronts also differ from MT to AT with the AT front half being .79" longer then the MT front half.

Thank you for the info, but i still don't understand why. The only thing i can think of is that USDM S14's with ABS were the only S14's that had the VLSD. Which would make sense because then there would be different size differential on the ABS models. Other than that there's no reason abs should effect the driveshaft size. If this is the case then all Canadian models with or without abs would use the same driveshaft as usdm abs models since they all have the vlsd...my brain hurts, haha...someone must have some imput!!!

From what I know the front of a r200v is longer then a r200 due to the abs sensor... IIRC there is a sensor ring for the sensor making up for the extra room in the front of the casing.

As far as canadian modles go I really cant help you there. Goto your local dealership and look at a canadian FSM, as they do differ from the usdm FSM's.

Here's what I found out from doing a VLSD /w abs into a 240 that has no abs and no vlsd. Driveshafts may be slightly if at all different, (put them both end to end and no difference is detectable). The VLSD /w abs is longer but from what it looks like the non abs shaft does not seat all the way into the transmission as though it's not suppose to, that's where the dust cover comes in. With the VLSD /w abs, the shaft just goes into the transmission a little bit more.

If some of your are questioning if all the parts are original. Here's where i got all the parts from, My friend has a S13 with Hicas, abs, and Vlsd while his new car, another S13 has neither hicas, abs, nor vlsd. We compared the two driveshafts and no difference was detectable. looking at the end where the shaft goes into the transmission, you can see the oil marks left behind by the oil seal rings that the shaft does not go all the way into the transmission where as the mark on the s13's driveshaft w/ lsd has a .5" difference in the markings on the shaft. That's what I found out after doing the swap. Perhaps this will answer a few questions.

I'm sure this is the exact same thing with S14's.
