S14 downshift noise..

when i downshift my car makes a big noise like something is hiting something... it's not a light metal sound ... i can also hear that noise when i break suddenly... i don't know what it is... my friend said that it might be the universal joint but.. what do u think???

transmission mount might be busted

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Get up under the car and grab the transmission by the rear and try to move it up and down and back and forth. If you've got a lot of play, mounts are probably busted.
