Hey, this is my first of many posts here. I made an account specifically for this question, because I can't seem to find it any where on the net.

My Daytime Running Lights only have one side working. Only the driver's side DRL comes on when the car is running and e-brake is down. The module that controls DRLs is located behind the driver's side headlight, between the fender and the battery. There are two connectors that go into the module.

I took it out of my 240, and proceeded to try and dismantle it. It doesn't dismantle, so I managed to trim enough around the casing so I could remove the circuit board.

Is there any way to re-solder some broken links? I'm not great with electronics, but I noticed one of the pins were separated from the circuit board, and also had some brown residue around it, like it got too hot and fried.

I do not want to purchase a new DRL unit because it costs $290. At the same time, I like it when everything is working on my car.

Thanks

If learning how to solder interests you, id read up on it as much as possible., this skill can also be used for installing daughter boards in ecus and many other things. Start by researching all the tools needed and maybe practice on an old damaged electronic. If this isn't the route you want to go, there should be a local tv, or phone repair place that would charge like $20 to fix something like that. The skill is nice to have though.

So I managed to solder the pin so it's connected to the circuit board. My passenger side daytime running light came on! A crappy and unclean solder but it did the job! If your DRL unit is faulty, try cracking it open and re-solder any broken pins before forking over $300 for an OEM replacement.

One off a parts car is good too, but who knows how long the life is left on that.

if you want a clean solder joint then go to radio shack and grab a cheap "solder sucker", they look like a cross between a pen and a hypodermic injector. heat up the solder with your iron and use the sucker to remove the old solder. get some silver bearing flux core solder for small electronics (60/40) and solder up the joint clean. it will resist corrosion and last longer, especially being in the engine bay.
