Does this work? Just bought an S13 with an s14 blacktop SR. The pistons are melted and the cylinder walls are scored up. The car came with a bare redtop block and I was wondering if I can put the s14 head on it. Will the lack of VTC oil pathways in the redtop block starve the head of any necessary oil? What if the VTC crap is removed from the head? The head has BC 272 cams and I read that the VTC sprocket needs to be removed for those anyways... If anyone can shine some light on whether or not the s14 head will work on a redtop block I'd be greaty appreciative!

Lol, I've just got done building this exact setup. Bc 272 s13 block, s14 head, etc. leave the vtc solenoid in the head and just unplug it. Swap the cam vtc gear for the s13 and that's pretty much it.

So you didn't drill out the hole for the chain tensioner? Is it bad if the chain tensioner doesn't get oil?

If the s13 block was made to not have it, than it will be fine. I honestly don't know what your talking about, but either way, itll be fine.

The extra hole in the s14 block is for the timing chain tensioner. The s13/s14 blocks oil the chain tensioner from different spots. I have both heads in front of me. You have to drill out a hole in the s14 head for oil to get to the tensioner. I was wondering if it mattered if the tensioner gets oil or not.
