this guy put subs behind his backseat panels in his S14... so when I took my panels off in my S13 it didnt look like there would be enough room to fit the subs there. has anyone successfully done this in their S13? http://www.240sx.org/links/ins....html

Not yet, but I'm looking to install some 8's in a lower spot. When I do it, I'll post pics. Wish me luck.

good luck man.... i pulled off my panels in my s13 and i dunno if the s14 style back there was changed allowing the dude to make the system work or if he just installed the subs and didnt put the panels back on... either way i cant fit the subs there unless i cut up the frame which is a big no-go. yeah id like to see those pics once you get that hooked up good luck

Pulled the panels off this weekend to take out my automatic seat belts and put in manuals... I know for sure I can fit 6x9s, but the 8s are gonna take a little grinding. I'll need a full day for it, but I work two jobs and go to school, so... I'll keep you posted.

you sure grinding out the frame isnt going to make the frame less solid? thats the only reason i havent done that for my tens... like cornering with a flexible car bad news lol

I know what you mean, but for the 8's its less than 2 sq inches for each speaker... Besides, I'm not a track monster - yet.

Alright, here you go... I used plexiglass, some Dynamat, and a little foam rubber for a gasket. It's a little ghetto, not exactly "Unique Whips", but it sounds pretty good. If you want more detail, lmk. Haven't decided if I'm gonna use a grille or just drill holes in the panel and cover it in lite cloth or what...

More details would be nice. So did you end up grinding?

Yeah, I did. I went through about 6 or 7 cutting wheels with the Dremel... I started by making a template out of hardboard (like pegboard with no holes), then cutting that shape from plexi with a jigsaw. I took the sub, put it over the rectangular holes in the panel, traced it with a Sharpie, and then cut out that circle with the Dremel. Then I mounted the sub to the plexi with machine screws and attached that whole assembly to the car with self-tapping screws. A few spots, you'll have to flatten out the sheet metal with a pair of pliers or vice-grips so the self-tapping screws will reach, but overall, it wasn't that difficult. If you're interested, paypal me 10 bucks and I can send you a template. Oh, also, you have to cut off a little corner of the bracket that's directly underneath. I think you can see it in the pic.
