Hows it going, to all those who have done this conversion, or to those whove inquired pricing, this is for you. After reading the various conversion write-ups, I was convinced to do the conversion myself since everyone said it cost them about $400 for parts without the transmission. But wait, not for me, it's come out so far to $1,238.00 with the transmission. And I am looking in Junkyards and Ebay!!!! How can I reduce costs!!!

This is what I got so far. Please let me know what I am spending toooo much on, thanks.

$300 5 speed OBDII s14 transmission junkyard, $250 for the s13, but I need s14$300 5 speed Driveshaft front and rear sections (this may differ if you have ABS/LSD)240sxmotoring.com$80 Flywheel (Manual, new or resurfaced) ebay$5 M/T flywheel bolts (A/T bolts are too short) autozone, junkyard$100 Clutch Kit (Clutch, Throwout bearing, Pressure Plate, alignment tool – ebay or autozone$50 Shifter assembly (plate, lower rubber boot, upper leather boot, finisher plate) ebay$100 5 speed Crossmember I cant find one!$54 Clutch Master cylinder ebay$29 Clutch Slave cylinder ebay$40 Clutch hardlines 240sxmotoring.com$? Clutch rubber line and dampener line (which you may want to remove anyways) cant find$170 Clutch pedal assembly 240sxmotoring.com$free Brake pedal, cut to fit free$5 Bellhousing bolts for a 5 speed bellhousing (some of the A/T bolts can be reused) autozone, junkyard$5 Bolts to hold Pressure Plate to Flywheel (same thread as bolts that hold shifter to transmission, but a tad shorter) autozone, junkyard

Total$1238.00 !!!! This is way too expensive just for parts.

Please let me know what parts I am spending too much money on, thanks.

Yeah after the whole weekend trying to find cheaper parts, I just cant, if anyone know where I could find cheaper parts than that I have listed, please advise, the conversion should not be this expensive, yet somehow the parts I find make it this expensive.

Umm, I bought my whole rb20det engine, transmission, harness, etc for 1200. So yea. But if you really wanna do just a KA auto->m/t then its up to you.

Quote »$50 Shifter assembly (plate, lower rubber boot, upper leather boot, finisher plate) ebay$100 5 speed Crossmember I cant find one!$54 Clutch Master cylinder ebay$29 Clutch Slave cylinder ebay$40 Clutch hardlines 240sxmotoring.com$? Clutch rubber line and dampener line (which you may want to remove anyways) cant find$170 Clutch pedal assembly 240sxmotoring.com$free Brake pedal, cut to fit free[/quote]ALL these parts can be found @ junkyard already. When you buy the transmission it comes with shifter, should come with crossmember too. So I dont know why you would go else where to buy it.

-transmission +shfter(should already come with the transmission) should be around 200-whole assembly in cluding lines, cylinders, bolts, shifter all from junkyard (although not recommended but it is a cheap solution)-crossmember from junkyard-im not sure if the auto driveshaft would fit but you can also get the manual driveshaft from the junkyard too.-resurface the existing flywheel from the transmission and get a new clutch kit

imo MAX should be like 700 for this conversion

shame, I just sold my dohc transmission to someone for just 200. try to source one out locally. im pretty sure someone out there has done an RB/SR/LS1 etc swap and not using their transmission AND motor anymore.

Great deal on the rb20 swap, but then again I would still need to convert my car to 5speed, petal assembly, lines, etc, and would prefer to do this first and do it right with the ka motor and know it works before trying it with a motor and trans that I don't really know.

Yeah I really am thinking getting an rb20 would be better for me than just upgrading the ka I have to a turbo, I see a few rb20det's on ebay for like 900 with the transmission, turbo kit, shifter, alternator, everything,

Instead of the clutch lines get a one peice auto-5spd conversion line from Enjuku for $30. It runs from the master cylinder to slave cyl directly, bypassing the damper loop.Napa Auto Parts- Clutch Master Cyl- $22 Clutch Slave Cyl- $15You should be able to get the crossmember for under $50 somewhere, keep looking.

Find a junkyard with the transmission still in the car somewhere local. I know of one in VA with 3 or 4 still in but that guy won't do business unless in person. Get the transmission, shifter, bolts, crossmember, pedal cluster, and flywheel all at once to save $. I'm doing mine right now also and ran out of patience finding the driveshaft. Spent the $ on a steel 1 peice from driveshaft shop. People claim this swap can be done for $500 flat... That would be nice, but in the real world if time is a factor expect to spend $800 after all the incidentals. Mine is going to be $1k+ but thats after the upgraded driveshaft and clutch.

verSat1l3, where is the scrap yard in VA? e-mail me with the name if you don't mind. i need an s14 bellhousing, speed sensor and cross member (and maybe driveshaft). i guess its obvious that my trans is from an s13 . what a pain in the a$$. seriously considering the one piece from driveshaft shop for the long run.

thanks,kevin
