ok so can i get a definite answer here...do i need the ecu from a 5 speed s14? i think i do, but not 100% sure. thanks guys.

Its not on the list of things needed.... so I'd say no.

no, you don't need it, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to have. I've heard of idling problems with the auto ecu when it comes to a 5 spd swap

The auto ecu will work fine, it will idle up slightly when you come to a stop. You will also get a Check Engine light for missing trans computer connection.

Driveability is not affected, at least on 95 ECUs.

so how much would the average swap cost? i really want to do it, but if it's just annoyingly expensive i don't know if i will...

Including the trans, and new clutch, I would say around $1000if oyu do your own labor.
