Hey guys I finnaly got released from military training and now i can drive the 1997 240sx. It is so sweet, but I dont know what types of mods I should do first. I am not looking to drift this car much and just want it to look good and perform once in a while. As for suspension, do I really need coilovers or what about AGX shocks/struts with springs? If i got those all I would need is camber plates right? What other things can I do to significanly affect the car? Thanks for your help, and yes I have done searches and I would rather like a fresh opinion.

Haha too late man im in love with this thing. I should of gone with a 95 and converted to s15, would of been cheaper and less of a pain to find but now im happy with this. I prob will get intake atleast to make the engine sound better, exhaust might make me too loud but I think the BRM ones made on this board would be it if i get one.

Welcome to NICO and congrats on the car. Those kouki S14's are hard to come by.

As for the exaust it shouldnt be too loud if you get a resonator.

Welcome to NICO man. Search is a great function so use it wisely an you'll get around just great.

And dont do a single thing to the car until its tuned up(i.e running liek brand new.) Get new plugs, plug wires, distributor, make sure theres no leaks, all that basic stuff to keep it healthy.

COilovers not not at all necessary. AGX with some good springs is a very popular and good setup for daily driving. Some people prefer Eibach sportline springs with theri AGX, some prefer Tein springs theres a huge world of parts to add to your car.

Glad to have you on board.

if he jsut got the car it doesnt really matter what he plans to do int he future, its more of gettign the car healthy and running strong then beginning to slowly mod it, unless you want a motor swap then you jsut gotta save ya money

I agree on the healthy part, but it only has about 48k miles on it so I dont think it needs a tune up just yet...? As for what I want to do with it, I am thinking more of a show car than anything, I dont like racing much since the cops here love to give speeding tickets and thanks to traffic its too easy to wreck. Drifting puts a lot of stress and thats something I might look into not anytime soon.

The RB25DET looks very promising as well, I think its either nearly the same price as a s14 sr20det or a little less (flashoptions.com). I originally wanted ka24det but this might be a better option since it should give better gas mileage. (I think ill be paying about 35$ per week for gas right now)

When I said show car I didnt mean all that extra crap, i just want to keep it clean and immaculate. My friend's red 240sx which is a 97, he drifts the crap out of it and doesnt care if it gets dings and dirty. I guess in other words I like to baby the damn thing, maybe ill get over that one day but until then maybe I should start with wheels and suspension! I might just end up investing 720 for that GB on coilovers, imo that seems to be the best deal in the long run.

ChunkiDori: I didnt know flashoptions sucked, thanks for the heads up.

why do you want coilovers.coilovers are good for people who need the adjustment.i use them because i constantly need to play with adjusting ride height and camber, and dampening for the different situations.

Theres ntohing wrong with a well kept car so do as you please when it coems to taking care of it and babying it.

As far as the mileage 48k isnt nearly as many miles as most of us here, but im sure it wouldnt hurt. If you put it off i wouldnt wait longer than 65-70k for the first real tune up

Ok I think i might go with AGX shocks and S-tech springs but would this set up create enough camber to do serious inner tire wear? If so, what type of camber kit do I purchase? Is there anything else I need to buy for the AGX/Tein's? Thanks

You shouldnt have a problem with INTENSE camber and tire wear issues. theres a link i got somewhere of anti-lift kits that would help
