So I have searched for a couple days now about the interchangeability of S13 and Z32 rear control arms. I am doing the Z32 aluminum knuckle swap. So far I have mixed responses. These are for OEM parts BTW.

The three answers I have found say:

A. All S13 and Z32 rear control arms (minus the conical ball joint bushing) are completely interchangeable.

B. Only the S13 and Z32 lower control arms (minus the conical ball joint bushing) are interchangeable.

C. All Z32 rear control arms can be swapped into an S13, but the arms are longer.

Which one is true?

They should be interchangeable as far as I know. If you want a definitive answer, contact SPL in Texas http://splparts.com/contact.html These guys have the best suspension pieces in the industry for S and Z chassis cars.

Just out of curiosity, why are you looking at the interchangeability? The S13 arms will bolt to a Z upright. The only thing you need to swap out is the strut since the Z and S use different mounting styles.

Two reasons. First, I would like to clean, paint, and replace bushings and since this is my daily driver I would like to minimise down time. Second, I am receiving all the other arms with the knuckle and wanted to know if there is a difference.

Why do I seem to recall needing to change the lower part of the shock?

Yeah I was aware of the different types of strut mounts. Its the control arms I am wondering about. I guess I will just have to measure both the S13 and Z32 arms when I receive them.
