Car 93 240SX Coupe AUTOMATIC!Car clicks 1 time for the first 2-5turns then starts.

Replaced -Battery (old one was 6years old)Did a Battery Relocation kit (from summit planned on it anyway)

Started the car up just fine. Now today i got that ****in clicking again.

only happened once so far. But now should i test the starter? or is there a connecter/wire i should check? i don't want to buy a new starer cause the KA is coming out in 3/4 months. don't wanna spend $100+ on a new starter for nothin.
I had the same problem, lots and lots of clicking. It got progressively worse. I thought the battery at first, Not. Then I thought hmmmm starter?, Not. the Solution for me was posted on another forum, it turned out to be the positive battery cable set up. It's pretty easy to do, it has about 7 terminals to connect. You just have to follow the connetions down to the starter and your good. Problem is, it's still 100+ dollars I spent $129 from a nissan parts place online. the OEM is bank, close to 2 bills. It has started perfect ever since and that was about 3+ months ago.

so how did you fix it?

mine wont crankbattery is fineheadlights turn oni pushed started it home...

it could be that

edit: actually i have no clue if this means anything, but about two drives before this happened, i actually noticed that when i derpess the clutch at a normal speed, when it hits (unless i do it super slow), i hear a little click (not an electrical click, but like a plastic click of the clutch hitting the whatever the **** it hits)

so im guessing maybe with the thing that broke off that hit the relay, it doesnt hit the whatever it hits the same way, so it makes that noise?

Could a bad ecu cause this too? I mean, my car has been running rich and today she stalled out a a steady cruise of 45mph and wouldnt start. I can hear the starter turning and the battery is fine but no start. Air filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, whole distributer unit, cap, rotor all new. Stock injectors, so maybe it could be that but idk, i kinda thought the ecu was on the way out from how it was acting. 1993 ka24de. /thread jack

Starter fuse/fuseable link? Where is this located? What about the wire/plug coming off the starter?

One thing to remember:

Wires have two ends.

Most everybody will check the ground wires at the battery but few will ever check the other end. a bad ground can show up at either end of a wire.

Just food for thought.

Thanks Vegas. I'm pretty new at the electrical side of things so I'm learning as I go. I bought a multimeter the other day and have been reading over wiring diagrams so I feel like I'm learning hieroglyphics

well... i can definitely relate here.... and thank GOD i found this thread (GO SEARCH BUTTON!)

What did I do?

Well, I read how some1 did key on/off to see that some times the lights would go on... and some times it wouldn't. So I tried it. Noticed that it did that... or sometimes... it SLOWLY turns on... and its dim... then BAM it gets bright... so im like... "this is gonna be hell"

Came back, did more reading... then read something about "check your connections". Well, story was, I changed the battery... and it started instantly... so thats why I knew it had nothing to do w/ battery and alternator... was starting to lean towards starter. Now, my car started ONLY when I jumped it... and ran perfectly. So that somewhat took out the starter as well. I was getting one clickers... so... weak/starting to get bad starter? I had one last hope... and that was the POSITIVE CONNECTOR. I noticed that it wasnt bad... it had some build up... but nothing to be like "oh must replace!"

WELL, when i flipped that bad boy around (to a ... somewhat cleaner but not really side) the car started like a charm.

LESSON I LEARNED (and highly recommend checking) is check that wire to the starter. It is true... one click = bad starter multiple clicks = bad/weak battery. So if all your fuses are new... and ur having a one click issue.. definitely has something to do w/ the starter. It can be different things, fuses relays wirese connections... but it definitely has something to do w/ starter

Hope this helps... and... thanks for all the input here... once again... has saved teh day

Well I had taken my starter in to check it at VatoZone and it failed twice and passed 4 times. I went ahead and bought a starter cuz they had it in stock but still no start...just one click (up under the dash).

I have a new battery, starter relay, starter, and have bypassed my clutch switch...what's left? Ignition switch?

I'm getting slightly perturbed

Turned out to be the starter relay...the first thing I had replaced.

Bought a nissan relay for maybe a dollar or two more and it fixed the problem. Then I took the other one back to AutoZone and got my money back.

I didn't see any body suggest this yet but a cheaper alternative to replacing your ignition cylinder would be to install a push button switch.Simply run a wire from any power source in the car to the switch and then another wire to part that slips off the starter. That fixed my problem and cost $5.

Should be a clear picture of the relay, located by the battery tray, all the way at the front, close to the bumper, on the passenger fender (under the hood though). Hope that helps...

I should briefly mention my situation as well, in my case I checked the battery for voltage, but not under load. It had been starting slowly, then slower and slower then nothing. then clicking. multiple clicks. As the above posts mentioned, one click starter, more clicks battery, it was true in my case. I didn't read this yet tho...so i jumped the starter relay, swapped starters, checked my ignition cylinder, all before I did the following quick test...

Quick test was to have someone turn over the car as I checked to battery voltage (post to post, DC voltage) and my battery was dropping to 5 volts under the load of attempting to start the car. I should also mention that otherwise it showed 13.6volts or something, and as people have mentioned, the lights inside and accessories worked fine.

So, long story short, it's worth checking your battery under load if you have a friend and a voltmeter, and starter problems.

K I'm having the same problem. Just replaced the starter and batter.
First it started so I kept turning it on and off to make sure it was gonna work every time.
Then I took it for a drive, when I turned the car off it wouldn't turn back on until we push started it.
It does the dim clock when I turn the key and only one click.
Keep this in mind. New starter! Please I need some help. Need to get slippery!

I have a '99 Nissan Frontier 4x4 SE V6. Having same problem - one click, then nothing. Dash lights up. I had just put in a new battery a few days ago. Checked all connections at battery and put on new terminal leads. Got in this morning and the dash lit up but won't start. Starts with a jump so I'm thinking this rules out ignition and clutch switch and probably even the starter. Before replacing starter, I've been reading on here about a starter relay switch but can't find it on my truck. Is there one in this particular model ? Trying to rule out the easy stuff before wallowing in the dirt to replace the starter...

Thanks!
