I currently have a 240 but an purchasing another one I found for under 500 in mint condtion, no rust, dents or anything. But it has a ca18et engine installed in it(by a ase mechanic). I have a pulsar with a ca18det, but I dont know much about the ca18et. What do you guys think? I was thinking about swapping the det into the 240 and putting the et in my pulsar. Could a ca18et be modded out to put out high horsepower? I would definitely change out the intercooler, turbo, injectors, put a turbo timer. etc... etc... What do you guys think?

Quote »I have a pulsar with a ca18det,[/quote] If someone has swapped a CA18DET into your pulsar, why would you want to take it out to put into RWD 240? It would be a headache and you'd have to source brackets, P/S pump and A/C compressor to suit the RWD configuration. If soneone swapped a CA18ET into an S13 240 then that would be a waste as well, when they could've purchased the CA18DET to put in there. The CA18ET isn't a bad motor, but I personally wouldn't mess with it for big performance. I say scrap the CA18ET and get another CA18DET for your 240, if I had read your post correctly.

Lots of info on your ca18et is at http://www.clubs-12.org. Highest hp in the us is ~220-250. Supposedly some crazy wankers in the UK have MUCH higher output. et's came stock without an intercooler, so if you have one currently modifications have been done. Go for a test drive and see how quick it feels.

My pulsar has a ca18de beign converted to a det. My engine is being built up for it, ported and polished heads and all other kind of good stuff but isnt in the car. THE 240 I am going to buy the guy bought the car for his daughter who eventually blew the stock motor and then he found a ca18et (turbo) and swapped it in. I really dont feel like swappind the engine out if it to change it to a det but maybe if I dont get my engine back into the pulsar there could be a possbility of the engine going into the 240. I just wanted some opinion on the ca18et motor. I am sure it is as good as engine as the stock ka24e. My other 240 has the stock engine and the car is way fast for me. The 240 I am going to buy is for my boyfriend. The pulsar is also his, and I have an Alty as my daily driver. I think I am going to buy the car, it is nice to own another nissan. We will then own 4 nissans.

boost boy makes sense in his post.i can only compare a ca18e to a ca18de as i have not driven an et. i think one of the best things about the de is the way it revs, an e doesn't rev as hard but has strong midrange.

Heh the funny thing about the et in the 200sx is for the first two gears it feels like a rev monster because of the gearing of the diff and transmission. Then you hit third and realise the last 800 rpm are useless.

Sxgirl: I didn't see the $500 in your post. At that price I'd say it's a steal. If it does have a FMIC, post some pics on club s12.

I am going to pick the car up tomorrow. I know the engine is no ca18det, but i love 240's and I cant resist as this one is perfect. I wish mine would have started out this nice. We can always down the road change out the engine and put a ca18det or rb into it. Thats the great thing about the 240 there are so many different engines we can put in it.

Yup the engine is a single cam that is why it is called a ca18et not ca18det. And yes it is turbo, all nissans that end with a "t" are turbocharged. The ca18et origianally came in the 84-86 200sxn adn japanese s12.

I just picked the car, and the turbo is actually in good condition. The car doesnt have an intercooler or bov but in a few weeks it will. We are going to make custom stainless intercooler piping and put a t25 or t28 on and get a nice bov, a boost gauge and boost controller. The car is a very clean 240, not one dent on the car or rust and I payed 500.

ok... when i come up with engine codes they are probly not factory :) just match the letters to what it has... ca18dett (ca 1.8 liter dual overhead, efi, and twin turbo :)) ca18det (all that **** and a supercharger)

IIRC Nissan's engine code for a super isn't "s", it's "r". So a supercharged CA would be a CA18DER. I could be wrong though. I had that happen to me once.

I have heard about the ca18dett which came out stock in a jd, car but I have never heard of a stock ca with a supercharger. I know people have talked about supercharging them but never heard that nissan actually made one.

There's a CA18DS, but that's the diesel engine and it's not dual overhead cam. Then there's the CA18DETT, that uses 2 small turbos, but it's one with rare footage and I don't have a pic. The CA18DE never cam with a supercharger. Nissan has a MA90 (micra) motor that is both turbocharged and supercharged and I do own one of these currently. They are just below 1 litre, but is classified as 1 litre to participate in a specific class. Nissan didn't toy around with supercharging as much as Toyota did, but do have a few engines with superchargers attached to them from factory.

Do any of you know of the ca18et and the ca18det have the same transmission? The block is the same so I would imagine the transmission was the same.

no, they're not the same. Gearing is different, bell housing is different, and I think the ET transmission is physically shorter.

Does anyone else own a s13 with a ca18et, I beleive I have got the only one. Actually it is not a bad motor, it has alot of get up and go. I know alot of people will say put a ca18det or an sr20 in the car but I kind of like it because it is different than all the other 240 with the j-spec engines. Once I put an intercooler, bigger turbo and a few other things the car should have some decent horsepower. If I can find a place to host my pics I wil put some pics up for you guys.
