hi everyone, ive been scouring the net for aaages looking for info on these damn engines and this seems like one of the top forums to post on so here goes.

the cars a 91 s13 silvia with a 180 front (onevia). a vg30det engine has been shoehorned into the bay along with a 5speed box.the usual stuff has been upgraded - brakes, fuel pump, regulator, ecu (Haltech e6k), MTQ TD06 Turbo(not sure if these are standard on the vg30det's), huge FMIC, etc.

problem #1 - i was having some big problems with the car backfiring at around 5k rpm on wot. i found that the bov was quite old and all the seals were stuffed so the thing was sucking air at idle and blowing it out on boost. so ive ditched the bov and blanked the holes shut. now when im accellerating the car....stutters? best explanation i have. sort of like rapid misfiring for a few seconds when wot. ive cleaned all my connectors and calibrated the tps. i just cant figure it out.

problem #2 - after driving the car for an hr or so ive noticed the fuel pump starts humming loudly. loud enough to piss me off at idle. and it also seems to make the car hunt thru the revs a fair bit at idle. it only seems to do this after running a fair while. also if i stop the engine and turn the ignition back on the pressurise the fuel system the pump stays loud. if i leave the car cool down its quit again.....changed the fuel filter but still no joy. is there anyway i can test the fuel pump to see if its buggered? also do s13's have an intank and ext pump or just intank? fuel regulator is a sard item also.

problem #3 - drivers headlight doesnt retract anymore. worked fine when i bought the car then a few weeks ago i had to switch the lights on and off a few times for it to close, now it wont retract unless i give the motor arm a shove.

PS. i didnt do the engine conversion and as far as i know the engine is out of a nissan leopard. i cant find ANY info on this engine. ive been using 300zx vg30dett rescources to figure stuff out. its a struglle

Problem 1 sounds like overboost?? I am not a turbo guru but that would be my guess, I say get a good BOV.

problem 2 replace the fuel pump with a walbro ,alot of guys here use them with great success.

Problem 3 . We just dealt with an issue here in online mechanic regarding 240sx s13 pop up light issues see if you can find it. It was like no more then 2 or 3 weeks ago. Pretty good info in the thread for testing the system. My guess though by your description is the motor has poor internal contact if you can push it to get it started.

not sure, but i think overboost would be a wastegate thing.... im not really a turbo guru either
