All I need to know is 4 wires for 2 different models. I am swapping a KA24DE inplace if a KA24E into an 89 240. Ive figured out the injectors looking at a Motors Wiring guide we have at the shop but cant figure out the dist wiring.

The DOHC dist has 4 wires... black, white, black w/ white tracer stripe and silver dots and black w/ silver dots, the SOHC wiring harness has white, black, red and yellow or green, I dont remember right now.

I just need to know what wire serves what function on both cars so I know which one to wire to which. FWIW Im trying to keep the simpler ECU and harness of the SOHC in the car and have been told its completely possible to do this.

Still needing some help on this. My daughter was in the hosp for most of the month so all projects have been on the back burner. Shes out now and I am hoping to get back on the car in the next few days.

you basically move over engine, ign. coil, and engine harness over. you shouldn't need to fiddle with the coil if you got all that stuff.

So the early SOHC will run the DOCH harness?

All Im trying to do is hack the dist wiring. Everything else is figured out but if its a matter of plug and go Ill swap that around this week. I just know I had the SOHC running w/ NO CELs w/ everything stripped down and didnt want to deal w/ the DOHC ECU freakin over everything Ive gotten rid of.

Other than the 4 injector plugs and the dist plug everything else has been a plug up deal. And there was no knock sensor on the SOHC harness.

The reason for trying to keep it so stripped down is I have another DOHC motor that is just assembly away from being done (high compression, ported (hogged out is a better term) and polished head and upper and lower intakes, match ported, removed secondary butterflies, built to spray ETC) and I set in this motor just to work out the wiring and run it around some until I have time to finish the motor I am building....that Ive been screwin around w/ for over a yr. Too many projects not enuff time so I am thinning the herd down to the 2 I like most, one of which is the 240.

Maybe I should just swap out the harness and ECU if I have to, but isnt there some difference in the ECUs regarding the gauge cluster?

you're putting in a dohc engine into an 89-90 car right? You need the dohc engine harness to do that. You'll need to do some minor repinning and soldering on the harness near the fuse box but that's about it. Do not try to build a harness yourself unless you've got experience with it. You'd be asking for serious trouble.

the clusters will read out the same stuff with the exception of the tach. Pull the sohc tach out and put the doch tach into the cluster.

Yes, Im swapping a DOHC into an 89 car. If I could just figure out the 4 wires at the dist everything else is done. Got the injectors figured out and the rest was plug and play. Ive been told (on here I think) the dist can be wired to run w/ the SOHC ECU and I am 99% sure it will once I know what wires serve which function so I can connect it up.
