Ok I am in serious need of help...I am currentely working on a 5sp. swap in my vert. After putting the new motor trans combo in. and following the guide posted in these forums, on how to, my car will not start. I can turn the key and nothin happens, just a click. I have tested the starter, and it is ok. I have also came to find out my coil is not sparking, and i know it is good cause it worked in the car i took it out of. Also my gauge cluster is not lighting up when you turn the key and my clock doesn't come on either.

So I am pretty lost any one have any idea whats going on?

Make sure that the battery terminals are tight for god sake.

That sounds exaclty like a loose/corroded battery terminal wire. It cant get enough current for the starter so when you turn the key to start position is overloads and cuts the power to protect the car.

If it still does it after that, then you have a problem.

The battery terminals are clean and the connectors are new.

It sounds like you need to go back through the wiring again. It might be extra work, but I would pull the entire harness and start from scratch with an FSM in hand. Wiring stuff up is like calculus, when you mess up, sometimes it saves more time to start over than to find your mistake.

I do want to point out that I'm in no way an authority on this subject, so I'll bump this thread for ya.

I think I am gonna grab my FSM and go back though it once more if I still cant get it to start, Does anyone know if I can take the whole wiring harness, ecu and all out of my wrecked 5sp. and put it in my vert? I think my top may not function.

Did you splice the big 2-wire connector under the fusebox?

That's all that's required to start the car.
