I recently bought a 1990 fastback and managed to crack the windshield in 3 placed on the long drive back from Pennsylvania to Florida. Front windshield replacement is 100% free in Florida if you have insurance. I called a company that advertised their services. I told them it should be done at a shop, not in a parking lot, as it takes a couple of hours. They said they did have a shop 45min away that I could drive to, which was a lie. I told them up front they that I would insist on only factory parts, except for the windshield which is discontinued. I even gave them the part numbers:
7725-35F05 Welt(the sticky part underneath
72750-52F10 Moulding set
Then then sent out techs twice to try and repair the windshield with generic gaskets in the parking lot.
I told them to cancel it.
I called the dealer for a referral to whomever they used. They sent me to a local shop. I again gave them the part numbers and carefully explained the job. They agreed, ordered the parts from Nissan and call me when the parts were in and set an appointment.
On the day of the job, they called and tried to get me to use a generic kit to install it with no trim pieces. I refused again and they agreed.
I talked personally to the tech about doing it right.
They did do it correctly and perfectly.
I am just telling the story to get the part numbers out there and let everyone know that it can be done correctly.
Total bill was about $150 in labor and $550 in parts.
