After reading "Whats the difference between the S13 redtop and blacktop", has brought a few questions:

First, here is a quote out of HCI:

"Professor Baker does a great job with this lesson of informing us what JDM motor works best in what USDM Nissan 240. . . . If you stick to the same year chassis and motor configuration, this will help in the long run. . . . however there is no problem with putting an S-13 motor in an S-14 body and vice versa. The S-15 motor is the same as the S-14 motor except the transmission is longer, which would require an S-15 driveline. . . . the S-15 engine is the cream of the crop when it comes down to the JDM SR20DET motors."

I bring this up because I have a question, it eludes to the fact that a S14 motor is harder/more complicated to swap into an S13 chassis than a S13 motor. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, other than the S15 being newer, why would it be the cream of the crop, i.e. what are the performance advantages?

And this brings to mind, what is the biggest "bang" for the buck?

Hmm, I don't know about bang for the buck. The S15 is usually 2-3K more expensive than the S13 motor and has 50HP more. 2-3K in upgrades and you should be close if not beyond 250HP, depending on where the money was spent.

For an S14 into an S13 chassis, sure the wiring is going to be more difficult, plus the A/C will probably not be fun, but it's possible, and it's been done. I've seen an S13 Coupe with an S15 SR20DET in it, so I know it can be done.

Personally, I prefer not cross-platforming, but I'm anal.

I second that. Bang for your buck, I'd have to say the S13. For the price of a S14 or S15, you can have a S13 just about fully moded with some extra money left over.

Uhhhhhhhh....

S15 motor feature a higher flowing Inconel exhaust side. They also have a close ratio 6 speed transmission as opposed to the 5 speed. The S15 motor also have 480cc injectors which is one of the big reasons they make more power than the S13, S14 motors. The manifold on the S14s and S15s flows better than the S13's KA style intake manifold. Plus take into account the added efficiency of the T28 at higher boost then you have yourself the answer of why it's the "cream of the crop" motor. It's also guaranteed to be newer than 4 years old as they came out in 99'. Although on lacking aspect of the S15 swap is that you have to use the rear end out of the S15. This is because the speed sensor is located there and not on the transmission.

thanks :-). my brakes stop pretty wel actually, i think that i definitely need new ones though after i get some torque and hp. steel lines also, it is way too much effort to make the brakes useful.:rolleyes

ok, ok, ok . . . . .

I can easily have figured why it is considered cream of the crop.

240Kuminachu, I live in the Spokane Valley, I was driving an escort for a while but i ended up having to get rid of it, so, now i am looking into the nissan scene, mostly the 240sx. I am looking around for a a 240 that has a blown engine (something cheap) to start a swap. (oh, and I am currently using the public transportation for my ride) I occasionally travel to CDA

what you driving?

just depends on what you want IMO. with the s14/s15 having valve timing some choose not to go this route while others do. S15 is equipped with the 6spd true but has sensors on the trans output and the rear diff so this must be considered...to the point, its all topical based on the direction of your car, what levels do you realistically want to reach? just my .02

kimchixboi, i would do the brake upgrade. Brembo is very trusted name. BAER is another one to consider but if you dont expect to see track time, props @ shows, etc.. i would just go with the Z32 brake option unless you for some reason (why?!) want to stay 4 lug.
