hello everyone,

ok i drive a 1991 240sx coupe (only mods: K&N intake, and dual exhaust straight from exhaust manifold) and my buddy drives a 89 rx7 gx with a rebuilt engine. Now when we race from a stop, ie red light, he walks me i can't even try to keep up, but when we do a roll-on race starting from about 60km/h I walk him. is there a technical reason for this cause it confuses the hell out of me, mainly becuase rx7s are high revving cars and it should just pull away from me.

hows your launch? what rpm do you launch at? IMO the s13 vs. the FC is a very good match up, my friend has an 85 rx7 and we're like dead even in every aspect.

humm I have a 87 Turbo II FC and a s13 SR20det, since my FC has a full bulit motor and A full custom turbo ITS faster, but both cars are awesome, both drive slightly differently.

that's odd... i've smoked MANY FC's around here... from a stop and a roll, from a roll was harder... you may want to practice your lunching... you should be able to tear up just about anythign off the line if you have an LSD if you dont.... then go buy one =)

If the FC is not turbocharged, I think you should beat it, though not by much.

A non turbo FC and an S13 are VERY similar in performance. I'd say that race could be all driver. Your car may be slightly faster (since you pull from him from a roll) but he may have a better launch technique (since he pulls from a stop). I can't imagine you "walk" him though, because like I said, the cars are very similar, and I wouldn't imagine either is car is signficantly faster than the other.

i now have a 88 base FC, and i have to say that i think my 92 240 was a little bit faster. i guess its cause of the torque and gears. i would actually think of it the other way around, that you would pull on dead stop, and he would at a roll. it doesnt really matter to me which is faster, mainly because they are both rwd and very fun cars.

i wasn't asking which car was faster i was looking for more of a technical reason why those things happen, but as some of you stated t may jsut be my launchi will try a different way.

the rotary engine is very efficient compared to the piston type engines. Something about the inertia of the rotors allowing it to rev more quickly than "regular" engines. But...people claim to spank the FCs all the time, so i dont know what to think anymore. I always thought the rotary engine was far superior to piston engines, from an engineering standpoint.

I have an auto s14 with CAI and my friend has a manual 90 FC with exhaust, intake, no power steering, and some other free mods and he beats me from a dead dig, but I pull hard from a roll. But thats probably cause I have an auto and cant launch.

well i raced the FC last night from a roll against a v6 tiburon. he was about a car ahead and kept revving and gunning then slowing down, so i finally gave in and raced. i threw it into 3rd at about 55, and passed him and pulled just a little, then he caught up at about 85 or so then started to pull on me.

problem is, is that high speed and high gears it doesnt pull very well, not nearly as well as the 240. i need more torque! so after i did this, my first race with the FC, i decided to reverse my intitial statement about pulling on a roll or stop.

oh yea, ive only had a rotory for 2 weeks, so im trying to learn how to drive it. andi forgot, i had a passenger, but im not sure if he did or not. oh well i admit the loss because thats part of racing and i dont feel bad.

I am the owner of the infamous fc3s the gx is the canadian version of the american luxury editionits a 5 speedonly options are sunroof and power mirrorsive done about 100 pounds of weight reduction and i always keep my car at around 1/4 tank of gas for stop light racing purposesit has no lsd and it has a final drive gear of 4.10and when i race i shift at the buzzer if this helps anyone( rx7's have a buzzer that comes on at redline, it does this because the engine revs so smooth u would never think it was at 7 grand)

You're prolly gettin him in the rolling start because of the difference in torque. While a non turbo FC has slightly more horsepower than a KA24DE, the KA has a bit more torque, which very well could be that difference

the FC is so enticing to me... I want to hear the smooth rev of a rotary engine first hand. even reading about the engine gets me all excited. I came across something interesting, though. The site i went to said that the high pitched exhaust tone of the NA 13b was disliked, and a complicated exhaust system had to be designed to change the tone. This makes me really want to hear it with a regular exhaust system.
