I'm having some trouble finding clear info on doing this...

1. I need to use a different diff. cover? I've read this is because the mounts are slightly different? Anyone want to elaborate?

2. I need to use my s13 vlsd halfshafts, correct?

3. Now will my s14 axels swap over, or do I need to swap the entire s13 rear end over? If I do need to swap the s13 axels.. aren't the s13s wheel base shorter?

4. Any problem using a s13 vlsd from a 240 with ABS and swapping it to a non ABS s14? I know some 300's have part of the abs incorporated.. just wondering if that will be an issue.

Thanks guys (and gals)-Phil

yes you will need to use a different rear cover. S14 and S13 have different numbers of bolts and they are in different places.

abs 13 fits non abs 13. that's not a big deal. same rear cover issue for S14 tho.

its the bolts that mount the diff to the sub fram that don't line up, correct? So if you want to mount an s13 diff to an s14 you need to use the s14 cover?

anyone want to chime in on the halfshaft q's?

the half shafts (hereby refered to as output shafts) are the same. Nissan uses a type of differential called an R200 in many of their models. The viscous unit is the same as an R200 except it has an added viscous coupler. Because of this, all output shafts can be swapped around in an R200 series diff. The catch is that the viscous units need a different length output than the open diff. This way, the outputs engage into the viscous coupler.

The main difference between an R200 output shaft is the companion flange. 240s use a 6 bolt, 3 pronged pattern. Silvias and 180s use the 5 bolt, 5 prong pattern, as do Z32s and J30s.

In short, as long as you get the output shafts with the diff, you'll be gravy (assuming that the diff is a US S13).

here's a link that will not only answer any more questions you have, but show you a step by step swap of someone installing an S13 V LSD into an S14:http://importnut.net/lsdswap.htm

I have the entire lsd equipped s13 sitting, mangled, in my driveway.. so getting the parts shouldn't be a problem

I've seen that web page before... one things still confuses me on it. The diff mounts differ on the s13 and s14. I'm wondering if simply swapping over to the s14 cover will be enough, or if I am still going to need some type of bushing to fit in there.

Just wondering since the opposite (s14 diff into an s13) requires bushings.

Thanks for the great info
