Ok, I've always rooted for the S14 b/c of its ***. But don't have the money for one. So, now, I'm considering buying an S13 instead. But, I've driven my friend's '90 S13, and it has heavy *** understeer. I hate understeer. Is this understeer mainly caused by its balance ratio? How can I fix it so it'll turn as well as the S14?

Also, is turning the HICAS off on the S13 easy?

heavy understeer? I think maybe your friend's S13 is damaged or something cause i got a little but not THAT much. And its soon to be corrected with a power brace and a strut bar...Maybe its the HICAS kicking in that you feel. Its only supposed to do its thing over a certain mph, though.

What's causing the understeer in the S13? I thought it was b/c its balance ratio is further off 50:50 than the S14.

the understeer in stock form seems to be from the weak stock springs. :P thats what i think. but i never played with stock suspension on any car for that long.

understeer is caused by many factors. tire pressure can play a factor. sway bar or lack thereof can affect it as well. could also be the drivers fault. plus all the manufacturers engineer a car to understeer.
