Okay, I've gone through all of the threads about all the various squeaks and I can't find what's causing this squeak and it's driving me absolutely up the wall!!

I have a 1993 Nissan 240SX Fastback that is completely stock...even the radio...absolutely no modifications to the car whatsoever since it left Japan aside from a new paint job.

That being said, I've got a squeaking noise emanating from under the driver's side of the dashboard. I disassembled the entire lower portion of the dash, lowered the steering column, tightened all of the bolts, and I can't get the squeaking to stop.

It's definitely not coming from under the hood...it's an interior noise. When I take hard corners...like on a freeway off ramp, the noise completely stops. I immediately thought "suspension, bushings, etc." but it's just not coming from that area. It's like it's directly behind the knee bolster.

Anyone have any similar noises? What did you find?

Thanks for any input!

I feel you on that one. I searched and searched and searched. I can't find it either. Same squeek too. When you hit a bump it's like........."eeee........eeee..........eeee....eee.ee.e.e.eeeeee...........eeeeee......e...........e...........eeeeeeeeeeeeee......e.eeeeeee.e.e.e" Like morse code or something.

Really annoying and closest I can come to figuring out what it is is the little black box thing under the radio. No way I know of to stop it.

I haven't torn apart the center console yet, so that's a new direction for me. Thanks! Btw....we drive the same car. Gotta love the charcoal color.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

I used to get the same thing but it was only when my A/C was kicking in hard. But I don't have A/C anymore so problem solved

I did find a nasty squeak behind the rear drivers side speaker, gooped it up good with some "Great Stuff" insulation foam... comes in a can from home depot, I shoved that stuff everywhere. The car is much more solid all the way around now.

OMFG!! My S14 has the same problem! It's driving me nucking futs!!! It started about 2 months ago right after I got my tires rotated. I've poked around under the steering column. I'm guessing it could be the center console? Every little bump in the road and I get that high pitched squeaky noise!!

LOL Yeah, see!! I searched!

It is driving me nuts. I only hear it between 20-40mph. If I let my car warm up (i.e. let it run for about 5 minutes) the sound is barely there. It gets really bad when I apply a lot of pressure to the brakes, but if I slam on the brakes and then drive around the sound is gone.

I googled the problem and apparently it's very common in cars. A lot of people said it could be ball bearings, struts, etc. I am tempted to take it to the dealer and have them check my suspension since my driver's side front wheel sounds stiff when I pull out of the driveways in the morning. I had new tension rods installed in June. The dealership that did the repairs/check-up over filled the oil and I ended up blowing a valve. So, it wouldn't surprise me if it's my tension rod making all the noise.

Blah. I wonder if the other people who posted ever got their problem fixed?

If the sound shows up with bumps or uneven pavement....I had the same problem with my vert and it turned out to be that the tops of the adjustable rubber bumpers that the hood closes on were worn (read: polished) and made a great squeaking sound against the underside of the hood. I used stickon felt furniture feet on the tops of the rubber bumpers and it went away. It won't cost you but a few bucks to find out.

I had a friend who had a "Interior Noise" that he could have swore it was on the inside. When we did his RB25 swap he was SO ****ing mad i found it to be the "hanger" for his brake lines in the middle of the hard lines along the firewall.

S13 Hatch FYI.

Just some info.

It's funny you mention that because I had to lower the hood latch because the left side of my hood was moving a lot at high speeds. It still does. Is there any way I can find replacement hood rests? They are rubber after all and I think they just twist out. However, I adjusted my hood way back in June. Why wouldn't it have made the sound back then? Also, why does the noise go away when I go over 40mph - wouldn't it get worse if it was the hood?

It's a good idea. I'll keep it in mind when I get a chance to poke around my 240.

Yay! I found out what the problem was! It was my hood. Took some grease to the hood rests and that fixed it right up. I am so glad it's not my suspension. Good luck to everyone else!
