s13 transmission problems... help please

Its kind of a long story so please bear with me.

Alright so i finally got my registration for my 240sx, it has a redtop s13 in it. i decided to drive it. I went a ways and when i came to a stop it sounded like something was spinning. i tried to put it in 1st and it would start grinding, bad. all the gears were grinding. i didnt know what to do, so i used a little elbow grease and literally slammed it into reverse. once i got it into reverse i could put it into other gears. this happened a couple times on the way home. a week or so later my buddy and i decide to take a look at it. when i got to his house it started happening again. i called him over and when he got there i took my foot off my clutch and the noise stopped, so we think its the throw out bearing, but the bearing looks fine. we decided to check the transmission just to be safe, we get the transmission out and start to take it apart, making sure to take note of where every piece came out and in what order. so we finally split the back half of the transmission off, but when we did there were two small bout 1" springs and a small ball just sitting inside of it. so we need help figuring out what those are and what they go to. i can post pictures if needed, and if anyone knows where i can find a diagram of the transmission that would help too.

any help would be greatly appreciated! i miss my baby and i want to drive it again, thanks ahead of time!

your clutch pivot ball came off. and the metal springs are probably parts of your retainer clip. .. pictures would help. but from the sound of it.. that's probably it. you've probably realized this by now though.

seems to be a thread dug up from 2 months ago....... but, PDF page 370 of the fsm shows the transmission assembly/disassembly as well as exploded views of parts.... if you dont have a service manual.... here is a link to one... download it. read it completely.... and keep it next to your heart like a bible
