So i was planning on changing my fluid today but i have just seen two people saying the GL-5 is bad for the syncro's. I bought 3 quarts of mobil 1 75-90 gl-5. Will this really be bad for it. I could find anywhere that carried redline near me and nobody had gl-4 all the other fluids said the comply with gl-4 and gl-5 specs. Help please?????

tms, you run ATF in GL4 transmissions? I know some trannies can use ATF, i heard the stock 5 speed one couldn't. This would be a much easier alternative for a few weeks than sourcing the OEM spec stuff.

Any further information on that would be helpful. Thanks

You're not gonna really find GL4 cause GL5 is the replacement, it's like trying to find ATF +3 (chrysler trans fluid) cause ATF +4 was the replacement for it was well. I ran GL5 in mine for a couple years and it worked fine (then I pulled it all out and replaced it all with new motor set)

I need to change mine as well, but didn't get a chance to yet. The dealer has some Nissan manual transmission fluild. Might be 8-10 dollars a bottle from them...i will be checking out the prices soon.

you need gl 4 or gl 4/5. Use the gl 5 for your differential

here is a write up:

I would use the pump method per the differential oil change article found in tutorials in my signature. if you buy gl 4/5 you can use for both transmission and differential
